So then let's have Marshalls/ armed vets at schools.

I don't think arming teachers is the way to go.

Why not both? Seems to be working just fine in Texas.

Here is the process to carry a firearm in the Argyle school district, according to a recent ABC report:

To become a school marshal, those employees must undergo extensive active shooter and firearms training with the state. They must also undergo a mental health evaluation. They receive a school marshal designation by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement and must renew their license every two years by undergoing the same training and evaluation. Outside of campuses in Keene and Argyle, signs warn visitors that there are staff members who are armed and are prepared to protect children.

We can't currently stop teachers from rubbing their vaginas on students. Last thing I want is for those teachers to have a loaded pistol in the classroom.

They might use the gun as a prop during fetish sex with the student?

Why can’t people carry on airplanes? Wouldn’t that eliminate the need to waste tax dollars on Air Marshals?

IIRC there was a lot of whiny liberal hand wringing when the Air Marshall idea was first proposed. I also recall pushback from them on the idea of having the cockpit doors hardened (I guess they reminded them too much of a border wall). It’s as if the liberal mind in general automatically rejects ANYTHING that might actually solve a problem.

Loaded guns in the classroom. Sounds like the perfect learning environment.

How would a loaded gun negatively impact learning?

You must have been one of the whiny hand wringing liberals in 2001 that worried about Air Marshals shooting a hole in the fuselage and crashing the plane.

This has been implemented at at least one private college in central Florida. The chosen faculty members go through a thorough selection process, and are highly trained for their specific mission. They consist of professors, administrators, and staff members.

Not every employee carries a firearm, only those in the program.

The ones who carry firearms are kept strictly confidential, and they carry concealed. Students have no idea who they are. The program, however, is not confidential. In fact, it’s advertised.

There are some similar programs in Texas. The concept is simple: train volunteer faculty members, but keep their identities secret. Advertise the program. Simple deterrent. These shooters hit soft targets for a reason...lack of resistance. A school advertising a covertly-armed staff presents the resistance that these shooters fear.

my neighbors have a security system sign in their yard but don't have a security system. And they've never been robbed. So just advertise "Our Teachers Pack Heat". Put a couple of signs in the yard. That oughta be enough.

Because of the nature of their occupation, federal air marshals (FAMs) travel often. They must also train to be highly proficient marksmen. Since the 1990s, air marshals are considered to have the highest firearms qualification standards of all United States federal law enforcement agencies. A FAM's job is to blend in with other passengers on board aircraft and rely heavily on their training, including investigative techniques, criminal terrorist behavior recognition, firearms proficiency, aircraft specific tactics, and close quarters self-defense measures to protect the flying public."[2]

The title of this thread is representative of how these sports boards pander to the more right leaning posters.

They always call names, I mean at every site. It's ignored till somebody comes back at them with similar language, then the thread is locked, nuked or the person responding to the insults gets banned.

Which school districts are you familiar with who would take on this level of liability? None that I know of.

In theory, it sounds like a strong deterrent. In reality, do we really want kids learning in an environment where they know there are armed people walking around? Kind of prison-ish, eh? You ready for armed standoffs in schools when Johnny brings a knife to school and a teacher tells him to "stick 'em up"? What if a 2nd grade student gets ahold of a teacher's gun and accidentally kills himself?

If one armed resource officer, such as the one at the high school, didn't do the trick, neither will 10 armed teachers. You may limit the damage but you're still going to lose lives if a kid is determined to kill.

Wow you’re right!
I’m sure the kids would feel much safer being fish in a barrel waiting for some nutjob to come along and start shooting at will with no fear of anyone shooting back.

The current environment is neither safe nor healthy so I’m not sure why we are worried about how safe or healthy it would be if guns were in the hands of teachers.

Y’all are such twats. I mean, it’s really not hard to figure out why this solution would be effective. You give extra money for teachers whom are willing to do carry but the cost is still less than that of two SRO’s. More SRO’s aren’t happening. Nobody ever knows who they are or where the guns are located. Those teachers that are pack have to under go 2 month training every summer and during spring, winter, and fall breaks. They must get renewed psychological exams ever year or two. If anyone finds out that they are in possession of a weapon they lose their teaching certificate.

You say it kinda sounds like a prison, well it’s very much like a prison that inmates run. The kids run the show in schools as is. Why not go ahead and arm teachers to prepare the a significant portion of population what they will experience in future. (kidding sorta)

But seriously, if a teacher wanted to hurt a kid they could easily do so without a gun. You think they are all of a sudden going to start shooting kids when they have confidential access to weapons. If so y’all are more dense than the speds.

Serious question, how frequently in the news do we hear this headline:
“Man short and killed as he attempted to carry out mass shooting plan in local trap house.”
