i agree, but the issue with your statement re: Trump specifically is that it ignores that being a sociopath and terrible person is required to get to that position now. doesn't matter if you're a Republican, Democrat, or a new party guy like Trump
the most sincere/normal guy in the 2016 race was probably Rand Paul and he was slaughtered

The nicest people get blasted in these things routinely. I think it might be Carter syndrome - people perceive "nice" as "weak". Being friendly and more willing to debate instead of scream is almost seen as a character flaw.

Good point. Deserves its own thread. Mr. Normal Guy cannot be president.
Pence is fairly normal and he is ridiculed for ... his normalness.
