Forgive me if already discussed. I often hear the argument that mass shooters would just use bombs to fulfill their bloodlust instead of guns and, to an extent, it is a fair point.

To my knowledge, you cannot purchase a ready to use bomb in the US. If this is mistaken I am sure someone will correct me. I didnt want to google too much about it and end up on a watch list. Does this mean the inability to purchase a bomb is a deterrent to using bombs in this country, OR is it the availability of guns that makes them an easier option? If the murderer ysterday had used a bomb instead of a gun, would there be any resistance to laws being passed to further restrict the availability of bomb components, or would it be evidence that bomb control laws dont work?

Most of these guys are not that bright and this guy in particular didn't have a problem advertising his intentions, so I'm guessing it's just that guns are just easier than making an IED.

Because making bombs requires knowing what the frick you are doing.

“Work accidents” are common with bomb makers even when they are competent. An amateur is far more likely to blow themselves up than anyone else.

I think most of these shooters have a vendetta against one or more of their classmates or teachers, and shooting them is much more personal then attempting to kill them with a bomb. I think if their sole intent was to kill as many people as possible you would see more bombs being used. A bomb like the one used at the Boston marathon in the middle of a school cafeteria would be devastating.

Funny you should mention this. I'll post this little nugget right here. It's from the Palm Beach Post.

Because we have a STEM crisis in this country. None of our deranged are smart enough to create their own bomb.

Don't know but China has a history of knife attacks at schools. There have been machete attacks in UK, U.S., and other countries.

Cars, trucks, and commercial vehicles can mow people down and kill/maim efficiently as has been proven in France, U.S., UK, and other countries.

Bomb making requires some knowledge and skill to make them efficient at killing. Knives and vehicles don't require much.

Because after almost every known bombing in this country, Congress works to make the items used in the bomb harder to procure.
