Is being reliant on an oxygen tank permanent?

I've never seen or heard of a situation where a person no longer HAS to use a tank.

I mean at some point they die and they don't need it anymore

Depends on the condition. Some people get prescribed oxygen on a month to month basis just for pneumonia, or other non permanent lung and heart conditions. If you have COPD or emphysema though, that’s permanent and only gets worse.
Like I said, depends on the condition.

maybe in a case where the lungs are healing but thats the rare exception.
i think in most cases once you need it you always need it for the rest of your life

oxygen tank
Biggest rip off in modern medicine. You can get that stuff free in the air.

Right after my second open heart surgery I was on oxygen for about three months due to excess fluid (actually blood) left in my in my chest cavity squeezing my lungs and preventing me from being able to breath on my own without the help of oxygen. After they drained all the fluid (blood) from my chest I was able to come off it.

What type of surgery did you have.. Valve? CABG?

It's actually called pleural fluid...
All I can tell you is when they stick the needle in your back and run it in between your ribs and start sucking it out, you learn a new definition of the word pain. Between December 2016 and Jan. 2017 I had like 4 liters (think that’s the number) drained over three sessions.

If they need oxygen to live, and then die, they no longer need it.

Don't need it when you stop breathing.

Possible if you get a lung transplant that's perfect for copd or cystic fibrosis

Todd Nance infamously used an oxygen tank at Red Rocks one year. He then get kicked out of the band so I'm not sure if he still uses it. That's all I got.

Replaced my mitral valve with a mechanical one and double by-pass. One week later they opened me back up because They had my Coumadin dosage too high and I begann bleeding internally from my heart. Basically bled out, got revived, and that’s why my chest was full of fluid/blood. They put the drain tubes back in )like three of them I think) but I still had several liters hey had to drain using the needle and vac pump in the back. Can’t remember the officially name they called it. Hurt like shite though.

I know a woman who was on lung transplant list for two years. Finally got them, and is no longer on oxygen.

No it is not permanent, neither is breathing .
There is however a close direct relationship between the two.

I came here to post this, I know a guy who had pneumonia badly enough that it was touch and go whether he'd make it. He did and used a tank for about 5-6 months but is fine now without it.
