Since $3.4 million of his salary got guaranteed on Wednesday his dead money is now more than his cap hit.

Does that pretty much mean the Saints are stuck with him for at least another year with no realistic options to cut him?

I am ok with keeping him. Our cap is in an ok spot and by keeping him we arent putting ourselves in a must address situation.

We can still test the market and gauge what prices people are going for without the market dictating us having to sign someone or utilize either a 1st or 3rd on a TE who may not even be day 1 ready.

The smart play was to keep him. Worst case scenario we still bring someone in and have a quality backup right behind him.

We can still cut him June 1st and save money, but makes it less likely.

It'll really depend on the draft and FA too, but given our lack of receiving threats at the position we still may need him this year even if we do get someone else.

He's underwhelmed, but going into 2018 with Josh Hill as the most experienced TE in your system seems like a really bad idea.

One more year of Fleener makes the most sense. This allows you to sign or draft another guy to bring up in the system assuming Fleener is who he is.

I was hopeful that they would go after Trey Burton

I thought Fleener played much better this season. Keeping him another year wouldn't be the worst thing. As much as I want to see them upgrade at TE it might be best to wait for the draft and use free agency to address other areas of need.

I think his injury had something to do with not getting cut? Not a fan.

Sadly he’s the best tight end on the roster and is insurance in case we can’t land a FA or draft a rookie.
