i bought a brand new gtx 1080 for 550 on cyber monday. Now they're all either sold out of $1000?

I get it, there was a huge spike that started mid november, hit 20k, but it has since steadily returned to almost baseline.

Is this price still being this high a combination of bitcoin "enthusiasts" that think the price will go up forever? and any downswing is temporary?

I thought the ASIC miners would be developed soon, were much cheaper and more energy efficient to use and produced a better yield?

Been planning on getting in to PC gaming for months now. Just going to get a prebuilt with a GTX 1080 ti. Only way to not overspend.

Yeah, I've been trying to get one for 5 months.

I thought they were bad last year when the TI came out, then bitcoin exploded again and boom, damn things went up another 30 to 40%. Sitting at almost double the msrp.

Hell, low level cards are going for high level prices. I guess this saves me money. I won't be doing my normal every two to three year new build.

What pisses me off even more is why hasn't AMD stock skyrocketed like NVDA? I need the profits to be able to buy a GPU.

ETA: I know that Nvidia has other business opportunities which has boosted their stock. I am just saying, GPU wise AMD is killing it.
