As I work in IT, I'd pass that blame to your manager. He probably told the department on Sunday night a new hire was coming in.

This is exactly what happened.

Managers expect IT to have a fleet of brand new machines ready to go. Managers never want to pay for said machines.

I'm just trying to get the arse holes on the phone. You gotta listen to a bunch of crap and then get put on hold for any help.

Yeah, I don't think you actually know what HR's duties generally are.

Mine is useless.

Thinking back to college, I never remember one friend or classmate talking about how they wanted to go into Human Resources after they graduate.

So, I’m guessing the talent pool is pretty thin and consists largely of business admin and communications grads who couldn’t find a different job?

this HR girl has set up (and rescheduled 4 times) a conference call to make sure I have everyone allocated correctly

I sent her a spreadsheet and asked if that's what she wanted to discuss. she said yes. why not just review my spreadsheet and say yea or nay?

HR departments are probably the biggest and worst unintended consequence of the Civil Rights Act.

Most businesses succeed in spite of HR, never because of.

It is a shame that some HR people and companies have given HR a bad reputation by fricking it up royally...putting the wrong people in the positions.

My son is a soph at LSU and asked if he should consider going into HR. I told him hell no.

The honest explanation is that all companies are required to complete an annual EEO data sheet to show the number of protected classes in supervisory positions, and public companies are required to meet a quota in that category.

It's human nature that people in upper management prefer to have like-minded folks at their table, so some fill the quota with a political/nepotism skirt in HR... outta sight, outta mind.

I'm a dying breed.

Hr serves to pad the payroll with mostly high paid females so you get some of your quota filled and you can mostly avoid them.

Ms. Paige,

I will be happy to provide a response to your request, however, in order to comply with Company policies, I request that you please complete the attached Request for Employee Information (Corp169) form so that I may seek the required approvals from company management, corporate communications and legal for external dissemination of employee information.

Thanks and Best Regards,

Most of the people posting in here are probably as incompetent as the HR people they’re bashing. Not saying that HR people are the sharpest tools in the shed, but I’ve never had a serious issue with HR.

Do you work for the government? I have found that the worst of the HR folks work for the government. Since you literally have to be arrested for a felony in order to be fired from a government job, the most useless employees gravitate towards HR where they don't actually do anything with either a. production or b. service to the public.
