House Speaker Paul Ryan, R- Wis., faced a wave of backlash over a now-deleted tweet celebrating a Pennsylvania woman whose paycheck saw a $1.50-per-week increase due to tax reform.

Sharing a story from the Associated Press, Ryan wrote Saturday on Twitter: “A secretary at a public high school in Lancaster, PA, said she was pleasantly surprised her pay went up $1.50 a week… she said [that] will more than cover her Costco membership for the year.”

Though Ryan was highlighting how workers have begun to see more money in their paycheck due to the GOP tax-reform bill that was signed into law late last year, many Twitter users mocked the tweet because $1.50 isn't all that much money.

Why would he delete it? He needs to own it if he is touting increases in take-home pay. I guess he failed to recognize that the woman was being sarcastic. Trump stands by his tweets.

It’s more than she had before.

She wasn't being sarcastic. If she was, then a whole bunch of news articles and agencies, not just paul ryan, did not see it.

Paul Ryan is a pussy, always has been. With that said we all know if the parties were reversed and Obamba was still President this would be celebrated as a financial triumph and the secretary would probably be booked on The View and Ellen by now.

Seems you could find a better example. 1.50 is actually crumbs but that could be cause whoever does the paycheck didn't adjust it much and she will overpay, getting a bigger tax return.

Hell I saw 80 dollar increase on mine

She's a school secretary. Her tax contribution was likely minuscule to begin with. If she wasn't paying much in can people really expect to see her tax burden decrease by much?

Paul Ryan as 3rd in command, literally, is in a tough spot...but that SOB looks more and more presidential to me.

Guys, let’s not be obtuse here. Ryan posted a tweet calling out a woman who got less than $100/year and acted like it was a big deal. Surely, you can see why that’s ridiculous. The tax bill was a win for 90% of Americans. This was a poor example. It wasn’t worth the tweet, nor this thread.
