This would give them a competitive advantage to attract the 5-4 star players right out of high school. What if they didn't require high school diplomas? Could this tame the beast that has become college football?

Interesting thought. This is literally their only advantage over the NFL.

They have a competent executive running things as well.

99% of 18 year old recruits aren’t ready to play against grown men.

Would XFL players be any better than the guys at big time college programs?

I would guess no.

But would be against marginal 20 year olds and other HS stand outs.

This is actually a good thread. If they could get potential star college athletes to join the league, they could really be a legitimate football league that even ESPN would have to cover.

Sure, if the league was full of college aged players

If they are playing against other 18-24 like in college I don't see the problem. Go to college for three years with no pay or play XFL for 100k a year starting. I have no idea what they pay but I know it's more than 0.

This thread is actually very good

If Vince can steal some of the big 5 star talent at 18, and pay them big money, he would maybe be able to strike some fear in the nfl this time

Are you saying players right out of college or have the XFL compete against Universities for players?

How many minor league baseball games have you watched? Is this not the EXACT SAME THING? In fact I would say the MiLB would be a superior product.

To go head to head against the NFL would be hard but to go against the NCAA would be like taking a 20 billion dolar piece of candy from a baby.

it is an interesting thought

having top college age guys going up with some former college stars (read aged players or NFL burn out types like Johnny Football)

it could be something not just the NFL... but the NCAA would have to do something about

In the XFL, players are paid to play, but are paid more to win. XFL base salaries for most players are $45,000 for the 10-game regular season. Quarterbacks are paid slightly more ($50,000) and kicking specialist slightly less ($35,000).

shite, Patrick Peterson got more than this to attend LSU.

How much does your body change between 18 and like 24? I'm 21, and I'm only slightly taller than I was at 18 and I maybe put on muscle marginally faster. If 18 year olds can athletically compete with college seniors, they can compete against semi pro guys that are a couple of years older.

No, it would give the NFL what it wants so badly, but is 2 cheap to pay for, a Development league.

NFL lets XFL take the 18 years olds, develop them, and then NFL could cherry pick those they wanted.

They work together, they both could benefit.
