Problem is it's not state money in LSU's case.
LSU is self supporting and uses no state tax dollars for athletic salaries.
On the flip side, the state has cut funding to LSU so much that all the top talent has left LSU. LSU can't raise tuition without the Legislature approval is a joke because the market should bear that out. You can't have it both ways.

If it’s private funds paying salaries and buyouts, why does he feel it’s his business to comment on?
