Don't take offense but that's not climbing.
Are you one of those elitist climbers?

Nope....but you wanna be.
Good attitude fellow climber

Im of the opinion climbing 5.11 on gear is more difficult than summiting everest
Agreed, especially on long routes like El Cap.

I'm not elitist, I'm 40 so I call it like I see it.
Hiking is not climbing.
Hell, even ice climbing uses crampons and axes.
Everest with crampons and axes?
Yeah, not so much.

Everest is a tourist trap now. It’s all about K2 baws
Annapurna is the real killer, mostly avalanches. About one death for every two successful summits.

It's obvious with your skill set.
I've seen better climbers in the quad.

I've been climbing a long time.
I've climbed Middleton and the Clock tower which are both in the quad.
Everest isn't climbing.
It's hiking.
I have nothing against hiking.

This year I am training to climb Mount Shasta in Northern California via the Casaval Ridge rout. Definitely going to be a ball buster.
Be careful on Shasta, that place is a fricky kinda spooky

Nice Rainier pics. I did Emmons with RMI after climbing (well, hiking) Kilimanjaro. Thought about doing more than that but decided it just cost too much in time and money.
My Emmons Glacier main guide was Billy Nugent, who has climbed Everest and Denali multiple time and was very helpful. Got to meet Melissa Arnot as well. Awesome experience.

A lot of mountains have a lot of hiking involved, some are pure hikes. Many of those, even if a little bit of technical climbing is involved it's climbing. You still need skills to survive a lot of these "hikes".
I have zero interest in Everest. But the term climbing is a general term....

You should know that.
It's not like we're comparing Everest to most of the 14'ers in Colorado which are a pure hike.

When someone brings all your gear to base camp for you and you never physically touch the mountain with your own flesh, you can't call it climbing.
Hiking Everest is a gnarly feat but I like to hike my own gear up to base, set my camp, cook my own food then hike up again to the routes. Place my own gear and feel the actual rock with my own digits.
Accomplishment has many differing opinions and I prefer mine.

I can't call that climbing because this is actual climbing
not to take away anything from what they are doing because it is still awesome.. I would call that mountaineering however

You're exactly right.
Climbing involves hiking but hiking does not necessarily involve climbing.
Your pictures say more than what I've just written.

It is and I like mixed climbing. I consider myself a mountaineer but I practice everything because I need all around skills in the NW.
Still, and you know this, climbing is a general term.
Posted on 1/17/18 at 6:33 pm to LSUintheNW
Climbing is not a general term for climbers.
