all businesses have a cap they can pay their employees, when you think about it.

Pretty sure he has already done that. Now it's just how important is his legacy in the NFL. I wouldn't blame the man for making as much as can. If they are willing to pay it then they must think he's worth it.

Is another ring worth 10 million to you? The post-career endorsements would cover this.

The Saints need Brees more than Brees needs the Saints. He has all of the negotiating power.

At Drew's age, what is more important to him--- winning another championship or another huge contract. If he has earned over $200 million in his career, does he really need the money or is his ego taking over??

Sure it does. It's called a budget. Most successful businesses have one

So I was right lol.
The difference is, TB12's cap hit on those contracts.
Ugh, their cap hit would be equal to those numbers (Brees actually less so far with $18 million spread out over the next 2 years)

What's that supposed to be proving? That's his current contract
You can't circumvent the salary cap, all you can do is change when the hit occurs
How do you think the salary cap works?

14 million dollar cap hit allows more team flexibility, opposed to let's say a 19 million or 22 million dollar one.
I mean there's a reason why some contracts are called "cap-friendly."

You don't understand how the salary cap works then.
His career cap hit is equal to his career earnings minus whatever is left from his the prorated yearly number of his current signing bonus
A "cap friendly" deal just refers to taking a pay cut or spreading it out like Drew has (into 2018 and 2019)
Seriously, where do you think the money goes? Just doesn't count?

Does anyone renegotiate like Aikman did years ago?
I realize we’re talking about night and day $$$ difference these days. But pay drew over a few years make his salary a manageable cap hit. Even after he retires. I believe aikman was getting paid 2-3 years after hanging it up.
But leaving money on the table? Hell no. Why. That mans shoulder will be a bane to his existence later in life. He earned that $$

that's actually a very good point.
although after he retires folks would still bitch about him being on the payroll. But it would help big time, short term.

That's what we did with his current contract actually

Drews cap hit since 2014 has been north of 18 million.
Toms has been 14 million...
I don't give a rats arse about a total contract. The cap hit decides what a team can do in FA. It is not false to say Tom has given his team more ability in FA.
The cap hit proves it.

Prepare yourself for the reality that he is going to be paid a market rate... most likely by the Saints
