Emotional stories from Republicans. Love them!

The headline would suggest his family/friends were not tolerant of him being gay

No. Not even a little.

His “experiences” are most definitely opinion based, as he doesn’t cite any real instances

It's literally packed full of real instances.

Did you even read it?

This thread is remarkable. The article really hit a nerve with some posters, mostly progs.

Personal experience stories are used all the time. Sometimes they are instructive but they should be considered in context as one person’s experience. The reader should ask themselves if the writer’s experience coincides with their own observations. Or was the writer’s experience likely only an anomaly, significant of nothing.

What makes the responses in this thread so interesting is Everyone who posts on a political talk board DAMN WELL KNOWS that the current level of political discourse is toxic. Anyone who denies the likelihood that the writet’s experience is true is just flat out in denial and deflecting.

I’m sure there are similar experiences by progressives of being rejected because of their political beliefs. However, the point of the article is to point out the hypocrisy of the supposedly open minded and inclusive left who, it turns out, again and again, is rigidly conformist to a single ideology.

Just look at how the left treated Palin or Ben Carson. They are far more vicious tonpeople they think are supposed to be in their tent than they are on standard Republicans.

There's no doubt during the election you claimed all the libs with these kind of degrees were the "intelligent" people voting for Hillary.

Can we not use dumbass opinion pieces from random people as the basis for major discussion?

How is it any different than the MSM fabricating news through anonymous sources then sitting around a table and giving their opinion about it for a year?

You think it is mere opinion that there are areas of the nation where coming out as a republican/conservative opens you up to very high levels of scorn and dirty looks from others?

Are you saying that these areas don't exist for the other side?

It took 36 years for me to see through the Democratic mystique of what the Republican Party is. Having done so has enabled me to affirm a deep part of who I am, which runs deeper than religion or sexual orientation, because it is part of what forms me. Sadly, it was a part that I should not ever have had to question in the first place.

Oh Good Lord.

Does this attention whore realize that 99% of the leadership of his party tried to keep him from having the right to get gay married?

Trump was the first major party candidate to support gay marriage at his first convention.

I agree. Your statement describes the entire working basis of the liberal democrat strategy. They randomly belch out unasked for opinions that are disjointed at best and blatantly bigoted at worse. At this point it seems it's all they have. They are pathetic, don't you agree?

Obama was the first sitting president to support gay marriage before it was legal..

It's a lot easier to support gay marriage when it's already legal. Tell me.. what's the Republican platform on gay marriage?

Why should Trump be praised for this?
