This thread is remarkable. The article really hit a nerve with some posters, mostly progs.
Personal experience stories are used all the time. Sometimes they are instructive but they should be considered in context as one person’s experience. The reader should ask themselves if the writer’s experience coincides with their own observations. Or was the writer’s experience likely only an anomaly, significant of nothing.
What makes the responses in this thread so interesting is Everyone who posts on a political talk board DAMN WELL KNOWS that the current level of political discourse is toxic. Anyone who denies the likelihood that the writet’s experience is true is just flat out in denial and deflecting.
I’m sure there are similar experiences by progressives of being rejected because of their political beliefs. However, the point of the article is to point out the hypocrisy of the supposedly open minded and inclusive left who, it turns out, again and again, is rigidly conformist to a single ideology.

Just look at how the left treated Palin or Ben Carson. They are far more vicious tonpeople they think are supposed to be in their tent than they are on standard Republicans.
