In the week 1 game, the Saints were a lot more competitive than many realize. They got under the gun early with a YOUNG defense in a hostile environment, and yes they were exposed.

HOWEVER, almost every big play involved blown coverages in zone defense, devante harris blowing a coverage or just flat out getting beat, or Manti TEO or PJ Williams trying to cover Adam Thielen. Dennis Allen will not be putting Teo and probably not PJ either on Thielen. Lattimore will probably take him out of the game while Crawley covers Diggs with safety help. Completely different game plan and infinitely better matchups. Subbing Crawley for Harris is a 10 point swing in itself. Also, Keenum does not have half of the arm talent of Sam Bradford.

Another thing that really jumps out at you is although the Saints struggled in the red zone, Brees had a number of successful deep passing plays, not something you'd expect from such a good secondary. He probably had more 20+ yard plays than average in that game, considering how they've mostly been chipping away in the passing game this year. We will miss Fleener, as he was a big factor in that game. Maybe Hill can step up.

Most importantly, in a closer game, which it will be, they aren't going to be able to afford to let Drew expose them downfield. They are going to have to pick between the run and the pass and they are going to try and let their front 7 contain Ingram and Kamara, and they are going to fricking eat on screens and zone runs.

The performance by our defense was irrelevant, it's not the same group personnel or experience wise. Keenum cannot go deep like Bradford. The Saints offense had some success in that game, until they got to the redzone. They'll convert a couple extra with kamara this time and win 24-20.

I look for McKinnon to have a big day against us. We have to limit his success. Brees has to have time to throw and duplicate his performance against the panthers at very least. NO turnovers. Pressure the shite out of Keenum. Literally, I want to see brown on that uniform. And our running game needs to be half as efficient as it's been since week 3. If we do these things we win going away.

One thing that I noticed in the first game that seems to still be an issue is third downs. On defense we seem to have fixed that issue but offensively, we continue to struggle on that down.

Vikings are going to take away Kamara and Ingram just like Carolina did. Problem is they can take away Mike Thomas too with their corners. This is the game Snead and Coleman need to have career games and they are fully capable

We were a lot better against Carolina on third down than usual.

Regardless of what the Vikings do we HAVE to be more efficient running the ball. It will help take some pressure off our D and will help us overall offensively. Drew won't be able to do it all by himself like he did against Carolina.

We ran it OK against them the first time and that was with Ram's first game with no Armstead or Strief. They're a lot better against the pass than Carolina but I think we will be able to run it better this week

And Josh Hill and Ginn. They will have mismatches somewhere, the oline just has to give Drew enough time to exploit them. Let Rhodes follow Thomas around, and make Smith commit to either helping with Ginn over the top or Kamara/Ingram out the back field and exploit the one he doesn't pick.

Coleman and Hill need to hold on to the damn football too.

A matchup like this against the Vikings is when I wish we had a threat like Jimmy Graham, hell I would take Ben Watson.

Edit: I realize we wouldn't have Unger if we still had Graham. I would much rather have a fantastic o-line that provides holes and protects Brees, but playing a great defense like the Vikes who I assume will take our running game away like the Panthers did. It would be nice to have another threat such as Graham/Watson.

Everybody forgets Bradford played almost perfect football. The man was 27 for 32.

I don’t care what point of the season that is, that’s unbelievable. Keenum is never doing that in his first playoff start.

I think the match up the Vikings will have the biggest edge on is Bush on Rudolph, if we can keep that in check I think the Saints win 17-13.

This game will come down to a few things:

If you had to pick one coach to draw up an offense to dissect a defense and one QB to run that offense, who would you take? Drew Brees and Payton have a relationship like no other, and are more than capable to stress a defense.

The first time we met, AD was bitching for carries and Kamara was little more than a spectator. With Kamara the Vikings have to commit a safety. That allows us to exploit one on one coverage with Ginn and beat on the middle with #cantguardmike. It will also force the Vikings to be aggressive in the flats or the saints will nickel and dime them to death. Being aggressive in the flats exposes them to wheel routes and double moves.

The Vikings abused Harris, but Crawley has shown he is a legitimate cover corner, and Case Keenum ain’t Bradford. Take nothing away from the guy, he has played amazing and deserves all the accolades in the world, but can he make the same throws? If you watch the Vikings, they have done an amazing job implementing a game plan that fits Case. The Saints were massacred on back shoulder throws, something Case does not excel in.

No Dalvin Cook means less emphasis on our Safeties. Cook had a great game, and his absence means we do not have to commit a safety, particularly in the passing game.

The only offensive weapon that worries me is Randolph. The Saints have been abused by TEs and he is someone that could really wreak havoc in the middle of the field. He could demand attention from LBs and Safeties, which would put PJ on an island in nickel coverage, and that isn’t a matchup in our favor.

27-17 Saints.

Keenum is better than Bradford

I can't agree with that.

This is Keenum's first season with over 8 games played with a passer rating above 80.

Last year with the Rams in 10 games, he had 9 TDs, 11 Ints, and 5 fumbles. He isn't as good as Bradford.

This is also Keenum's 1st season above 61% completion. Bradford broke the record last year

Breauxmo, you are wrong. Saint's were 3rd in the league in completed passes thrown over 20 yards.

Doubt lattimore is on Thielen much. He spends most his time in the slot if I’m not mistaken.
I expect to see lattimore on Diggs mostly
