But my title would changed. It would have been a different job. When I was offered my job I asked if the salary was negotiable and I was told no. I negotiated it anyway so of anything, I'm decreasing the alleged wage gap.

The "wage gap" doesn't take into account those types of variables. The "wage gap" isn't looking at men and women, at the same position, with the same experience, and the same benefits. It is just looking at men vs women. When they are used, the wage gap all but disappears. The "wage gap" is the difference between what women are paid and men are paid. So, you refusing a promotion, that the majority of men would take, means you are going to allow men to make more than you, a woman. So, you are adding to the wage gap.
