I haven't gotten one of those emails in years. I assume the spam filters have gotten better at intercepting them.
If you want a good laugh, look up scambaiting. There are people who pretend to fall for the scam just to mess with the scammers.

Sadly, many of the victims are the elderly who live alone and are mostly nice, trusting people who probably are lonely and have too much time on their hands. Some are starting to show signs of dementia or Alzheimer’s and just seem to fall for scams such as these or phone calls. It’s not that they are dumb as some have significant assets, it’s just there are so many ways and bad people that come up with new scams every day to separate people from their money.

You all laugh all you want, but I just sent $10,000 to the “Deparment of Treasry Affares” in Nigeria and will be getting over $5 million next week wired to my checking account.
I’ll be an OT Baller and the rest of you will still be just getting by.

Yes, this is sadly true. A few years ago, my siblings and I had to step in and get involved when we found out that some female servers at a local restaurant where my now late father was eating at regularly were taking advantage of his generosity (and probably some loneliness and want for female attention) to the tune of tens of thousands of dollars. We found out that he also co-signed an auto-loan for one, thus messing up his credit rating, and "loaned" another one thousands of dollars for her to purchase a used mobile home. Another one (we think, had no proof) stole a small coin collection of his as it mysteriously disappeared during the time they were hanging around him. Unfortunately, unless we were willing to do an intervention and go to court to try to declare him incompetent (something that is more problematic than one would think, my dad would have easily passed any competency test), we found out there was little we could do to stop this besides confronting the women and trying to scare them off, which we did, and trying to spend as much time with him as possible. As we all lived away from him, it was a difficult situation, to say the least. We tried to get him to move in with one of us, but he absolutely refused as he was very independent-minded and insisted on living in his own house. I got some help from the Office of Elderly Affairs. I was told by them that elder abuse (mostly in the form of stealing their money) is rampant in the country and will only get worse as the country ages.

Sorry to hear that story. People who take advantage of the old, the sick and disadvantaged are just the lowest forms of life and need a good arse whipping. I worry about my parents as I could see how easily they could fall for some e-banking scam or something of the sort.

Dude, the victims in these cases are usually good people that just don't know any better and aren't exposed to the true nature of the real wold like we are.
It takes a special piece of shite to prey on them and their kind hearted sensibilities.

I'm amazed at the tin hearts that some of you people have.
Especially when it concerns the kind hearted good people scams like the Nigerian Price targets.

A young girl I work with recently got scammed. I forgot the details, but she put down a $5k deposit on a cat she wanted to buy online but it was a fraud. She went to the Police about it but they couldn’t help her and pretty much just told her she was fricked. I wish I could remember the details. She’s obviously not very bright and I felt pretty bad for her.

Look at who people vote for to be in positions of power in political offices. There are tens of millions of complete idiots out there.

I am Dr. Bakare Tunde, the cousin of Nigerian Astronaut, Air Force Major Abacha Tunde. He was the first African in space when he made a secret flight to the Salyut 6 space station in 1979. He was on a later Soviet spaceflight, Soyuz T-16Z to the secret Soviet military space station Salyut 8T in 1989. He was stranded there in 1990 when the Soviet Union was dissolved. His other Soviet crew members returned to earth on the Soyuz T-16Z, but his place was taken up by return cargo. There have been occasional Progrez supply flights to keep him going since that time. He is in good humor, but wants to come home.
Would make a good movie.
