TCU hasn't won jack shite and since they've gone to the high tempo offense their defense has gone down dramatically.

While he was at ole miss, that was freeze's offense. Week to week game planning was a collaborative effort but freeze was the primary play caller. He hired Longo this past off-season to take on those responsibilities.
His offensive style involves formationing opponents into predictable and compromising fronts/coverages and is rpo heavy. The predicament he ran into at ole miss was when teams went man free coverage to negate the rpo game he needed a stud wr that could "win" consistently vs man coverage to the solo side of trips. When his guy could win they were set. When his guy could not, they struggled (think 2016 vs lsu). The thing that lsu would have that ole miss did not is an OL and RB that would allow him to run the football vs a man free, six man box.
The offense is qb friendly as well. So much of the passing game is rpo or 1 on 1 matchups that require little in the way of post snap reads.
From a football standpoint it would be a great hire. The question is do we want the character issue and baggage?

quote:If you really must go wake up snakes from the past then consider Orgeron's Ole Miss debacle: 3-21, fighting with coaches, players, media, and beserk profanity. Then there are the firings of Pete Carroll and Bill Belichick. USC received historic NCAA sanctions from violations under Pete Carroll while Kiffin was head coach. The sanctions came six months after Kiffin took the job and included a two-year postseason ban and a loss of 30 scholarships over three seasons. Kiffin went 28–15 under those conditions. Pete Carroll and Belichick are now coaching giants in spite their many failures. Get over it.
Kiffin ??? Legacy hire ??? Seriously ??? Ha Ha Ha Ha !!! He has been fired from every HC he has held except Tennessee because he left after one year and now FAU and he has only been there one year.
Dr. John Kelly, Florida Atlantic University's president, strides proudly into a raucous postgame locker room with the game ball tucked high and tight, just the way Lane Kiffin coaches his players to do.
Kiffin is lauded by President John Kelly, the ex-Clemson VP, for his Swinney effect. If had known this I would have hired him sooner. Kelly says that Kiffin has transformed the entire University in every way, academically, donor support, 35% increase in enrollment, 130% increase in attendance, and given the FAU untold millions in advertising, recruiting, and Kelly is committed to making FAU a Top Tier athletic program. Kiffin is expected to be the highest paid Coach outside of the P5.
Kiffin's impact has transcended football. Kelly told ESPN earlier this month that FAU's out-of-state applications for the 2018 fall semester were up 35 percent.
"And we haven't done anything else differently, so it has to be Lane," Kelly said. "He just gets it, both as a football coach and being able to attract attention to our university. I laugh just about every day at something he puts on Twitter and understand that he's about the good of the institution and is thinking about what appeals to a 17-year-old kid and not a 60-year-old guy."
Kiffin: Positive Effects of an A+ Home Run Coaching Hire and a successful Football Program
Kiffin - One of the most Compelling Figures in College Football
Out-of-State Enrollment up 35% - Main Campus 30,800 (this is more than LSU BR...FAU is growing and LSU is shrinking)
Attendance at Games up 150% - 2.5x the revenue
Recruiting - Top ranked C-USA class
Huge increase in Donor Support
Top Faculty Hires
ESPN in town and covering games = millions in free media coverage
Live TV and Social Media Coverage for Games
Dynamic Offense: 3rd highest Scoring Avg in nation
2nd Longest Win Streak in the Nation
Coaching: "Coach Kiffin has made us all believe," FAU senior running back Buddy Howell says. "People see all the stuff on Twitter, but he's about his business on the field. He's not going to keep you roped up. He's going to let you be who you want to be as long as you're on your game, on your details and taking coaching. He just wants to win, but he makes you comfortable. Everybody is comfortable with being themselves and isn't scared to go out there and execute. Sometimes, guys get uptight and play uptight, but not here and not with Coach Kiffin.

Their Record over the last 12 yrs is better than LSU's.
Their Offensive Change came in 2014. You have to remember that LSU had top Roster Talent, Top 5 over the past 5 years and won absolutely nothing, while TCU finished #3, and #7 in AP with a Roster ranked 43 and 39. The total opposite of LSU. Coaching/Offensive Scheme makes the difference. Boykin was a 3 star ATH with a national rank of 734.
Now he is working with better Talent but the Roster in 2017 was 32nd. It was Coaching and Offensive Scheme that made the difference.
Justin Rogers is their highest ranked recruit ever and at their most important position. TCU has what looks to be a Top 15 Class and the #2 DTQB, their first 5 Star* recruit ever. They will continue to be good.
Their Defense was 8th in 2014 the year they made the Offensive Change. It is 12th this year.
Patterson's philosophy is to Score Points at a high Tempo and that forces the Defense to practice at a high Tempo.

Brevity. Learn the meaning of it.
Everyone knows Kiffin was Orgeron’s top choice but he got a HC offer. Canada was the best fallback available. Sometimes, things just don’t work out. Happens in business everyday. You cut your losses and move on.

Okay, will be easy to get over Kiffin NOT being a legacy coach.

He was also fired on the airport tarmac one season removed from being the first head coach since the 1960's to finish unranked after starting the season as the #1 ranked team.
Kiffin had gone 4-7 in his last 11 games before giving way to Coach Eaux who took the same players, coaches, admin, etc and went 5-2 in the meat of the schedule.
I feel bad for you if you really believe Lane Kiffin belongs on your list:
"Kiffin, Saban, Patterson, Meyer, Swinney"
A list of five coaches. Three have won national championships and one is the frequently-fired Lane Kiffin. Weird !!!

I thought you were fine until this sentence which makes 0 sense. How about this? Your surgeon has made some mistakes that have cost some lives, but he his human after all. He is doing better than you or I could do in surgery.
Apples and oranges. Very poor analogy. Medicine is a hell of a lot more serious than a football game. Moreover, when one is given practice privileges at a hospital, their work is subject to peer review. Mistakes are identified and learned from, in extreme cases dealt with. Things that go wrong that are not the surgeon's fault are closely reviewed by peers and used as a learning experience. Yes, they are human, and they can err, but most practice in a very deliberate manner.
Coaches are human and they err as well, but their errors are nowhere on the same page with an error in the OR. That said, if a person is good enough to coach at the D-1 level, they are probably better at it than most of us would be.
Too many folks thinking that fantasy football and real football are the same.

Well I will say this about lane kiffin. Had I been the AD at Tennessee he would have been fired from there before he had a chance to bolt for USC.

Is there a reason why these posts are in bold? Just curious.

O is still on shaky ground after the Troy loss,
Yeah O is on shaky ground for losing to an 11 & 2 team with a crapload of key players sitting out that game due to injuries or suspensions, and an Arden Key who was only a mere shadow of his former self.
When will all you O haters understand, we don't care about that damn Troy loss! It wasn't any worse than the other two losses. Under the circumstances, it wasn't nearly as bad a damn loss as you ignoramuses tried to make it out to be. Had we been at full strength, we would have easily beaten Troy by 20 points. Go fly a kite you losers and stick that damn Troy loss up your backsides sideways.

He should have been. I remember him saying it was worth the secondary NCAA violations to get Tennessee's name in the public eye. Then he quit on them. The idiot is a true certified IDIOT...

I'm all now for Coach O but if he names Ensminger the OC I'm gonna be pissed. Steve stated last year that he doesn't want the job. Plus he hasn't done it for 15 years except for the interim position last year.
We need a bright, innovative young mind to consistently put 40 points on the board against SEC opponents and keep people in their seats because games are fun again. Canada did a much better job of that than Les' tired version of
3 yards & cloud of dust" and with a better QB and receivers who could get separation I thought we were on our way to being an exciting offensive team.
This is disappointing.
Screw promoting Ensminger. I like Steve but Alleva needs to veto that move if he wants to get people in the seats and bring Tiger Stadium alive again.
Hire Kendal Briles. He didn't have any culpability for the Baylor fiasco. We would light it up!
