Why does it bother you that Finn is black?

Why does it bother you that Rey is female?

Why does it bother you that Rose is Asian?

Why does it take away from the story?

I honestly don't even notice this stuff until I come here and see all the Poli board usuals bitching about it.

Black Panther is obviously being made for the brothas, but who cares? It still looks like a decent movie.

It doesn't make a movie bad, but when you make a bad movie with this stuff in it, it gives the appearance that the focus was not on making a good movie.

Diversity isn’t bad, when a film seems more preoccupied with diversity then being good, it shows

You are asking about individual decisions that no one really cares about. It's only in totality that it makes a difference.

Is anyone mad about Rey? She's easily a top two/three character of the entire deal.

When TFA came out, so many people complained about a female protagonist. When Rogue One came out, SO MANY PEOPLE COMPLAINED because it happened a 2nd time.

It doesn't bother me that he's black, I just don't think Finn is played by a good actor. Although he stopped breathing so heavily in this one, so I'll give him that,

It doesn't. I'm fine with Rey

Could care less that she is Asian, I just didn't like her character.

So I read yesterday that they made Rose and her sister Chinese because TFA didn't perform well in China so they wanted to have a Chinese minor character. This is a smart business decision. It takes nothing away from the story. Rose was a terrible character, but her race had zero to do with it. And Chinese people probably appreciate seeing a Chinese person in the movie.

Because minorities and women don't want to watch a movie that has all white guys in it. And Disney knows it so they will include a diverse cast in order to market to a diverse global audience.

When you cast diversity strictly for the sake of diversity it presents a problem.. Just cast the best character possible for that role and make a good movie is all most of us ask.

I either missed it, or don't remember it. She killed that part.

Get out of here with that.

I made myself very clear that my problem with Rose is that she is short, squat, ugly and can't act.

Rose's character existing bothers me because she's forced in there to make the movie play in China. TFA didn't do well in China, so that's why Rose was added. Her character is poorly written, and it's because the only reason her character is there is to be Chinese. Also, the evil Asian characters looked Japanese

It is noticeable that all the male characters in the new Star Wars make irrational buttheaded decisions. Doesn't help that they killed off the two good white males from the original trilogy before anyone else too.

It doesn't ruin the series or something though. People are being overdramatic.

So find a 1) Good character with a good story 2) Find a good actor who has chemistry with other characters in the film

Rose stands out because her character is superfluous and because she wasn't a good actor and had no chemistry with Finn, who himself isn't given much to work with.

Please find me a post that specifically readss "Why does Rose have to be Asian? I dislike that she's Asian" and you have a point. Until then, realize that people are more concerned with the narrative/universe/story and not with her ethnicity.
