You are always going to pay. Front side of the deal or back side of the deal. You are making a quarter mil a year and don't know this? You sure found a fool to part with his money in paying you.

Really, based on your behavior, I've gotten the distinct impression that you're really happy that my taxes are going up. Especially if that money ends up in your pocket.

Well that's just not correct

Louisiana is not a lower tax state than Missouri
I don't live in Louisiana but there are lower tax states than Missouri

quote:

Here's the thing, states get their money one way or another
in other words they vary. No one can write a federal tax code that accounts for all of those variances.

And despite your language that appears to imply it not all states call the same amount of tax income total from their people

Either way a policy that allows deductions for state taxes causes one group of people to pay more to the federal government and a policy that doesn't allow them causes a different group of people to pay more money to the federal government

You acting like this is something unusual is silly

Trump ran on what are effectively Marxist policy proposals
you just sound stupid when you throw out terms like Marxist in this discussion

The total exemptions double from $12000 to 24000.

The standard deduction is doubling from $12k to $24k, not exemptions. Exemptions are being eliminated. Actually, they're being rolled into the standard deduction, which makes the standard deduction increase effectively much smaller. If you currently have a family of three, which gives you $12k in exemptions, adding that to the standard deduction gives you $24k. So you don't actually gain anything.

The significance of rolling the exemptions into the standard deduction that is that people who don't itemize basically still get them. But people who do itemize lose them. If you itemize, you do not get to claim the standard deduction. It's an either/or proposition. Either claim the standard deduction or itemize.

California, in aggregate, pays more in federal income taxes than it receives in benefits. You think they should pay more so that a state like South Carolina, which gets way more from the federal government than it pays in can pay even less? That's Marxism dude.

No shite, last election they raised the sin taxes by about $2.

Yeah! If I smoke, I get to now pay $9 for a pack of cigs.

I don't smoke but that's ridiculous for one segment to close the budget gap. California has only the 46th highest tax rate for Wine and Beer and is one of the largest consumers. So that's one area they don't like raising taxes.

How about raising taxes on Wine, golf courses and dog food?

That would fix the budget in about a year.

ROFLMAO no

You just conflated individuals paying taxes with States. There is nothing in the federal tax code that says Californians must pay more in taxes.

Talking about how much taxes are state pays is retarded and you just outed yourself as a poser

If a state has a whole shite ton of people that are welfare cases those people aren't going to pay much in federal taxes.

Individuals pay taxes. Not States but the fact that you just came at me with the standard one each Democratic Underground talking point lets me know you're a fraud

According to who?

I’m one of his biggest fans, which means I listen to him often. When you listen to anyone talk that much, you pick up on their strengths & weaknesses.

LOL, people defending this horrible tax plan have been conflating individuals with States the entire time. Don't blame me for simply responding to the arguments that California needs to be punished.

Look at it this way, if California seceded, the federal government would lose more in revenue than it saves in reduced spending.

If South Carolina seceded, the federal government would save more in spending than it loses in revenue.

Exactly. That's why South Carolina pays so little in federal taxes. Too many people are on welfare.

The stereotype that only people in inner-cities are on welfare is nonsense. Welfare is rampant throughout rural America, regardless of the state. But people only want to focus on urban welfare, not rural. Sad.

The most politically feasible way to balance the federal budget is to block-grant all federal spending, including military, federal courts, etc. Then tell each state you get only as much money as you pay in federal income taxes. You get to decide how that money is spent, but you don't get a penny more than you pay in.

negative. california being over half a trillion dollars in debt to the federal gov't and wanting a lib utopia is why they have to have state income tax.

cali is the biggest waste in american history.

Then the fed doesn't get to tell the states how they have to spend it.

California and New York would HATE that shite

So how old is your child? I thought they proposed a much higher income limitation for the child tax credit. I noticed you didn't have that

So would Texas. The big states like to bully the smaller states, regardless of which side of the political aisle they're on.

My son is 19, which makes him too old for the tax credit.

Sorry. I was confused. You mentioned you couldn't take advantage of the child tax credit under the current code so you should be able under the new plan.
