My son also played against Patrick Reed when they were both 8 years old in the Starburst Junior Golf Tournament in Waco, but I didn't think that was a big deal. I was in charge of the under 10 golfers

Played in a 9-hole skins game with a guy who went -7 through 10 holes.
The other two guys and I were able to get the last three skins to carry into an extra hole. It was a par 5. He was over the green in two and chipped in for eagle from about 80 feet. I was short but my chip hit the stick and stayed out. SOB took 7 skins.
I was -2 and only got one skin. Oh well.

Chuck Winstead and the entire Rustin golf team in 86-87. They all could play.
Also Stiles when he first came here at the Mary Bird Blasters. Douse could play and hit it long. Could tell he was troubled soul though.

I also played with a guy who was a real long hitter. I know of at least two wooden drivers he cracked (long time ago).
He actually won a regional long drive tournament and earned a spot to the world championship in the Carribbean somewhere. Dude stayed up all night drinking and gambling at the casino and couldn't get anything in play.
He could have won it all. Saw him drive a short par 4 over water (280 yds or so) at Colonial CC in Jackson with a 4-iron.

Stewart Cink would be the best known. I quit beating him after he hit 17.
That was a lot of years ago.
The most talented golfer was a guy named Mike Boutwell. He could get out of his car with no warm-up in a pair of flip flops and shoot 66. He just never approached golf like a job which pros do.

Hal sutton - College/Prep 4/Ball - A cold drizzly day at Northeood CC. Hal shot 63 with his own ball - my partner and I beat him and his partner by 1 shot in a 2/day event - to this day, don't know how - impressive round from a then 17 year old.
Tom Kite - partner in Coors Lajet Classic in early 1980s - our team won by 3 shots while I played one of my worst rounds ever as our A player and our 21 handicap D player shot 81 with a net 1 and 3 on the last two holes - a par 3 and a par 5, LOL!
Bruce Litzke - Sr Tour Championship Pro-Am in OKC - what a smooth swing and great player he was.- and a real gentleman
David Toms - practice round for US Open qualifier at ChAmpions GC in Houston in mid-90s - learned from David that day that I had taught him Jr. Golf lessons when he was around 5-6 yrs old at Huntington Park in Shreveport. I'll take all the credit for his success, LOL!
Willie Wood - numerous - Wiilie's dad gave me some sage advice many years ago - if you can't beat that 5'2" 15 year old consistently (Willie at the time) then don't waste your time
Gil Morgan, Bob Tway, Scott Verplank - occassional pick-up games.

Willie played at our municipal course, Mallard Cove, in Lake Charles and his Dad (Willard) was our pro. Willard Wood was the first person I ever took golf lessons from. Willie, despite his Wee Willie size, he could play damm good golf. His sister, Deanne, was a great player also. Played against him in high school golf (I use "played against" loosely, as he always kicked our butts).
