Just attach a hyperdrive engine to a massive asteroid and have a droid pilot it right through the firing mechanism.
If the death star can get to hyperspace, an large asteroid should be able to. And they can attack it from light years away.

Well, except for that one time on the Ice Planet Hoth? When Luke (who had more training than Leia ever did) was about to freeze to death?
He had little to no training at that point. And I think Leia is supposed to have had training between ROTJ and The Last Jedi.

Meh. They knew where the vulnerability was. Send a ship into hyperspeed right through that spot.
Who did?
The rebellion?
They didn’t seem to have any heavy cruisers.
Just small transports at that time.

Anything that can go into hyperdrive would work.

Why didn’t she crash through the star destroyer the second it started picking off the life boats? Why didn’t they empty a ship and do that from the start and jump somewhere
This movie is a bigger narrative mess than any of the prequels

Wrong. That’s a gross over exaggeration that fans are making.
A ship that took years to build, with massive amount of resources put into it, and more than 3 kilometers long and almost a kilometer wide, didn’t even destroy it’s intended target. The fact that the debris also took out a lot of ISDs was luck.
That was a fricking massive ship, and it still didn’t cause enough damage on its target to stop them from staging an invasion.
Stop acting like anything with a hyperdrive would have similar effect.

First point I made myself.
I’m confused by the second point as the tracking ship was not present at the first battle, and again, they had no other capital ships there.
I’m not defending the narrative mess of TLJ.
But that element isn’t the universe breaking plot hole people are trying to make it out to be. It is NOT a viable offensive weapon. It’s a last ditch suicide approach only useful in certain situations. This is the first applicable on film occurance.

Also, let's talk about "running out of fuel"'
I didn't get that either... how are all of their ships "running out of fuel"?
Also, why did the First Order ships have to wait to get into firing range? If the Rebel ships are low on fuel then why couldn't the FO ships just speed up and bring them into firing range within a matter of minutes (or even seconds)???

The First Order ships were larger and heavier, and thus had a lower top speed than the First Order Ships. However, thanks to the sudden ability to track them through hyperspace, the Resistance ships could not truly escape. The First Order would simply jump out of light speed right behind them.
However, as long as the Resistance ships were going at full speed ahead, the First Order Ships could not catch them, but due to being low on fuel (something that has literally never been an issue throughout the entire saga), they could only stay at full speed for so long.
The idea was to stall until the main cruiser could be evacuated and the entirety of the Resistance Force evacuated to the uncharted planet which housed an old, well-defended, rebel base. Once on the planet, they could send a distress signal while the heavy fortifications would buy them enough time to wait for reinforcements.

They had multiple cruisers. Did you watch Rogue One or ROTJ?

I feel that anyone who wrote a star wars novel would have given a bigger screen play.
Like when they insinuated the X wing and the Tie were being supplied by the same company.
