In SC visiting in-laws, my wife's BIL is a longtime Clemson fan. Said people originally wanted to fire Dabo early on: just a cheerleader, assistants doing all the "real" coaching, etc.

Not sure how we'll turn out, but this surely sounds familiar.

(Told him I hope they beat Bama again.)

Just curious but was Dabo known as one of the worst head coaches in ACC history when he was hired?

It is a fair analogy. I think history has shown many of these feel good interim/hire from within hires typically flame out fairly quickly after the honeymoon is over.

Dabo has proven to be one of the exceptions. And his manner and personality is similar to O's.

So yes, the hope is O can do the same. I certainly hope so.

Doubtful. They won their division his first full year.
Then went 6-6 in 2010 with 5 or the 6 losses being by 10 or less including by 3 to AU with Cam who won the NC.

Then went 10-3. Then went on and got his recruits in place.
Dabo had to rebuild that team in terms of recruiting because of the shite show that was Bowden.

Plus Clemson had not won a NC in years unlike LSU having 2 in the previous 15.

Dabo had such a proven history at his previous HC gig

Remember when LSU hired a head coach who had not had any real success? Every one wanted to get behind him, recruiting seemed fine, he was an LSU guy, one of us. By all accounts an overall good dude.

But then the team looked like shite more often than not and ended up being fired. It was a lazy hire by Alleva.

Sound familiar?

Well, Dabo is 1-1 vs Saban while Coach O is 0-2 while averaging 5pts a game vs Saban

Yea you kind of have a point but Ed O had already been a HC and failed. That's why everyone disliked this hire

Here is the problem with people continually making this horrible analogy, Dabo never proved to be an epic failure prior to his hiring. He didn’t take over as talented a team as O did here and he took over a team with major issues abound.

People overtake Orgeron massively and his interim wins. He’s managed to survive the worst Crop if SEC teams in perhaps 3 decades, but is somehow rewarded despite horrible losses.

He’s already shown he will meddle in areas that are way out of his ability and in top of that, he is in no way, shape or form as charismatic as Dabo.

People need to stop trying to polish a turd into gold.

Clemson hadnt won a conf title in almost 2 decades when they took a flier.
clemson has zero top 20 finishes in a decade when they took a flier.
if O starts his lsu career like this...... 4 losses,5 lossedn and 7 losses he will be run out of town.

when lsu hired a career position 1we had been one of the 5 most consistent programs since the turn of the
when clemson hired their position coach they hadnt had a top 20 finish since 2000 or an acc title since 1991

Had Dabo already had a job previously and failed to improve his team?
