Working in Mobile, AL

I’m starting a new job in Mobile after New Years and I am looking for advice on where to live. Either going to commute from Fairhope or find somewhere in Mobile. I just know it doesn’t have the best reputation and I’m not sure where the decent places are for a 25 year old guy looking to be close to the action. Any advice is appreciated. TIA

West Mobile or Eastern Shore
Anything east of i65 will be sketchy

Destin and make the commute

Budget? Where are you working in Mobile? And what to do you mean close to the action? You could get a loft or something downtown, rent a house in midtown, Fairhope, etc. West Mobile is going to be more geared toward families and traffic.

Theodore or Bayou La Batre

Yeah, if you're working downtown, the commute from eastern shore may be rough dealing with the bridge. I'd love to retire to Fairhope, or move down there when I have a few years of working left. I'm definitely in Bham for the long haul, but once my kids are all grown it would be a nice change of pace.
Fairhope still has that small town feel. But close enough to beaches and city life if you want that.

West Mobile is a great area.

Chickasaw. Next question.

Midtown has some nice pockets, especially for a 25 yo without a family who wants to be close to the action. Stay north of Govornment St. though.

Mobile is meh as far as things to do.
Live in Baldwin County and be that much closer to decent beaches.

I’ll be working downtown and I’m looking to spend less than $1500/mo. Found a nice house near downtown Fairhope, but I’m not sure if the commute is worth it over the bridge. I’ve found some downtown Mobile Apartments like the Marine St Lofts and The Towers at Ryan Park which seem alright.
I was about to pull the trigger on Fairhope but thought I should give Mobile a shot before making my decision.

Man, you'll really enjoy it down there once spring and summer hits. Actually, Mardi Gras is about to start up after NYE, so the fun will be starting.
I'd live close to downtown Mobile, in midtown or downtown. Oakleigh District near Callaghan's is a cool area.
Eastern Shore and Fairhope is cool, but it is an older crowd. Fairhope has neat little downtown with some bars, but I've seen plenty of hot women in the bars.
(I'm assuming you're not some basic bitch dude who would rather live in a generic apartment complex and eat at chilis each night.) If thats your thing, find a complex out on Airport Blvd.
Enjoy your time down there.

The commute from the Eastern Shore would suck.
Like some other posters mentioned, look downtown.
With a $1500 budget, you'll be able to find just about anything you want.
Also, find a co-worker who can get you into a ball or two.
I've been to several the past two years and have had a blast.
We're beginning a younger krewe in Gulf Shores, cause these local fricks are too damn old.

North of Spring Hill or south of Government (sans Oakleigh), sure.

I’m in midtown and love it. Uber on the way to take me downtown to party.
Also nice are Crichton and Pritchard.

Someone draw a map of the hoods to avoid. I spend some time downtown, mainly on gov. Would like to know where not to go.

Most people in their 20's live in Midtown. I would look at some condos downtown. (Those weren't around when I as in my 20's, but I think it would be a very cool place to live.)
If you want to consider the Eastern Shore, Fairhope is awesome. And it isn't just older people. There are a ton of young people who work in Mobile. And, the commute isn't bad bc you will learn quickly to avoid the Bayway and take the Causeway every day.
I wouldn't move to West Mobile bc it's boring out there. Nothing buy TGIFraday's and O'Charley's, etc. Spring Hill is another great area, but I don;t know if you'll get in there w/ only $1500/month.
Hope this helps.
