Pass Interference has to be revamped

Please make this a challengeable play. Bring it down to 15 yards. Let them play. Refs have entirely too much power with this play being so subjective.

15 yard penalty yes

100% agree. I mean they knew they dicked it up, conferred about it, and still didn't have the balls to do the right thing.

theres too much incentive to interfere with a deep pass if the foul is only 15 yards

Just about every game there are 10-14 free points handed out because of spot PI calls. The fact that the rule effectively assumes the receiver makes the catch if not for PI makes it the second worst rule in the game behind the fumble out of the endzone rule.

I agree with it being a 15 yarder like CFB has it. It’s too much right now for team A to just chuck it down field and get a 60 yard penalty on a ticky tack call

And yet tackling a receiver that has run by you is only 10 yards if the ball isn't in the air. Why not assume the QB saw him and make that a spot foul?

I mean nothing is perfect but there's no way you can convince me the positive of changing it would outweigh the negative. How many college games have you watched and thought man they really got away with one there only giving up 15 yards? It doesn't happen that often whereas it happens seemingly multiple times every game in the NFL where a team is gifted points on bad PI calls.
The main thing is though not the punishment but the enforcement. If they would only call pass INT when there was legit PI it wouldn't be as big of a deal big since they call if anytime they can it fricks it up.

I'm honestly surprised this rule hasn't been changed yet.
If I'm a halfway decent QB with a fast receiver, I'm throwing it deep constantly.
Even if your receiver and the DB get their feet tangled up, they'll call DPI 75% of the time.

well anytime it happens over 15 yards, so a lot
but those are college players, not pros.

did you watch the SEA/JAX game?
Russell wilson literally did this 3 times and got intercepted all 3

As long as it's only challengeable and not reviewed after every penalty, I am fine with it. You still run the risk of making the games way too long though.

Now this I can get behind.

Happy?

How would it not out weight the negative? You're still giving away 15 yards and a 1st down. I just can't get down with giving out 40-60 yard penalties regardless of the situation. Ever.

This is one area Canadian Football is better. They can challenge pass interference

The worst used to be Joe Flacco to Torrey Smith. It was literally every other pass PI.

The one that needs to be changed is the defensive holding penalty being 5 yards and auto first down. A team can be in 1st and 50 but if a 5 yard penalty is called, they automatically get a first down. One of the many bs calls the refs made in the Saints/Falcons game occurred in a sequence in which the Falcons were penalized 10 yards for holding making it 1st and 20. The very next play, the refs threw the flag on the Saints for defensive holding, giving the Falcons a first down for a penalty that is worth less yardage than the one the Falcons had just committed the play before. It's absolutely insane and gives the refs ultimate power to extend drives indefinitely, regardless of any good plays made by the defense. Why this is allowed to exist is beyond me.

I don't see why there can't be a middle ground and make the penalty 20/25 yards and spot foul underneath. Splits the baby a bit. Doesn't have to be 15.

I would NEVER trust shitty NFL ref o EVER make a call worth anything over 15 yards!!! But yeah, I see College guys tackling receivers all the time past 15 yards... all the time!!
