DC Shake-Up in the Works After ‘Justice League’ Stumbles
quote:
Jon Berg will be leaving his current job running the comic book’s film production division, according to several sources with knowledge of the studio’s plans. A search is underway for his replacement, these people say. Berg will instead become a production partner with Roy Lee, the producer of “The Lego Movie” and “It,” who has a deal on the lot.
quote:
Warners is expected to name a new person to run point on DC’s films. Geoff Johns, who has partnered with Berg on much of the creative direction of the movies, is expected to continue serving as DC Entertainment’s chief creative officer.
quote:
The DC overhaul is expected to happen by January.
quote:
There are no immediate plans for Snyder to direct another DC movie, though he is producing or executive producing several, including “Wonder Woman 2” and “Aquaman.” Warner Bros. does continue to have a production deal with Snyder, so it’s possible he could direct additional films for the studio.
quote:
While Ben Affleck is expected to appear as Batman in a standalone Flash movie, it is highly unlikely he will don the cape and cowl in Matt Reeves’ planned standalone Batman movie.
quote:
Warner Bros. does believe that “Justice League” succeeded in one importantly respect: it effectively introduced Flash (a quippy speedster played by Ezra Miller) and Aquaman (the king of Atlantis, portrayed by Jason Momoa).

DC don't got the opiate for the masses

There wasn't much either of those guys could've done to save this movie. It was already in motion before they ever took over. This is an odd move.

:lesigh:
I didn't go see Justice League, and it appears I won't be going to see any other DC movies in the foreseeable future, so dumb.

quote:My guess is that they had to show the higher ups that someone would be getting the blame. Even though Snyder exited as a sacrificial lamb, Berg, Johns, and Whedon were expected to get the movie back on track. If Berg had expressed a desire to produce, this might have been their best bet to make changes without screwing someone over.

Last I checked, it was at about $600 million worldwide, and still doing decently.

It needed to compete with Avengers. So a Tomato score over 85%, and 1.2 billion plus worldwide. It won't meet any of those goals.

black panther will likely outpace it in a few months
and then infinity war is going to devastate the DC brand

lol...what?
Infinity War will have no effect on the "DC Brand." DC's shitty movies is what is affecting their brand.

Geoff Johns was hired as the CEO just about a year ago. His tenure has been, essentially, Wonder Woman and Justice League, which was almost in the can when he was hired. Blaming Johns is ludicrous.
If anything, Johns needs more power, to bring the movies closer to the comics. The strength of the MCU is that they trust the creators. They take the best stories from the books, and then adapt them to the screen. DC takes the intellectual property from the books, and ignores the stories and most of their characterization. Which is just silly. these characters are famous for a reason. Trust the source material. I promise that its real good.

This.

x100. And trust the ability to NOT focus on Bruce Wayne and Kent so much. We see that a little with Wonder Woman, but still Grayson, J'Onzz, Stewart or Raynor....so many great characters to let grow. Iron Man worked well because there wasn't a lot of cultural capital built into his name. People knew who he was and that was about it, that let Feige really just run with the character and RDJ own him from Day 1.
We didn't see the most popular character in Marvel's history until nearly 9 years in.

Goddamn it. This is like the church relocating the molesting priests. Just fire the fricking guy. Don't let him just go continue to molest some other movie franchise.

They still don't fricking get it.
Snyder is the one thing they need to get rid of first and foremost. He's a direct source of so many of their problems and why the the DCEU is sputtering on fumes today. He has no business having creative input over character and story driven projects like comic book characters.
Snyder should've been fired after Justice League wrapped up. The fact that he's still employed by DC tells me they really don't understand what Marvel gets.

Great.
Let's make it even more confusing for everyone to follow and possibly cause them to loose interest with two Batmen.

Yes. I am here to agree with you. That is all. Why is Bruce Timms name not in that article.

It's the right move. Get away from this shared universe and just make good films. I'm almost certain Reeves Batman will be a stand alone film.

The DCEU movies are good if you only take them as action and disaster porn flicks using comic book characters and that's all they're good for. That's what Man of Steel basically was; using a Superman just to wreck shite everywhere while completely ignoring what makes Superman, well Superman.
However, that's not what people want to pay money to see when it comes to comic book characters as they already have plenty of other options for action movies and disaster porn that already has more coherent and better stories that engage the mind.
Hence, not really a shock why the DCEU is cratering.

It's still confusing and is only going to drive down interest after the novelty of a new Batman wears off.

It can't be both imo.
DC needs to choose between stand alone and shared universe.

Abandon the shared universe but do stand alone franchises.
There's more than enough heros and villains in Batman and Superman to do mini universes with those iconic characters.
If they eventually 10 years down the road make another justice league, great. Just focus on making one solid true to comic fans movie.
