The Russian doping scheme was the most sophisticated and elaborate ever uncovered in sport. I'd say an unprecedented punishment, if it even holds, is warranted. Russian athletes who weren't banned at last year's summer games (I think over 1/3 were banned) were widely disrespected by their peers.
