Don’t get me wrong, he is right. Cutting spending and entitlements has been the obvious solution for a while now.
However, after what we’ve seen this year, and ESPECIALLY given that 2018 is an election year (one in which Pubs hope to gain senate seats and hold the house), there is almost zero chance that the Senate even sniffs entitlement reform
Every republican would be painted as heartless, racist, wealthy autocrats. And of course instead of rationally presenting their argument and sticking to principles, they would injure themselves trying to backpeddle on every issue of importance. Because republicans on The Hill are largely spineless.

The most common sense thing for SS is to institute a retirement income ceiling over which you can't draw. SS is a pretty bad idea, but it's especially bad the way it works now. It was sold as a safety net to help get the very poorest people past end of work to death as the average life expectancy increased in the 20th century. There is no reason for people who retire comfortably to draw SS. Medicare, the main problem is fraud and waste. There is literally like half trillion dollars in fraudulent Medicare and Medicaid claims paid yearly
