So auburn should be in with 3 losses? Nope.

This outdated mentality of evaluating college teams solely based on # of losses needs to die. "Who did you beat?" should be the first question asked.
followed by “who did you lose to?” Oh Auburn lost to 3 teams? They’re out

Alabama, who had a lesser season than Clemson, gets to sit at home?

Some would argue that losing to a playoff caliber team as opposed to Syracuse doesn't constitute a "lesser season"

When comparing Clemson to Alabama, for example, yes. How is it fair for Clemson to have to risk everything, injuries, show more of their playbook, expend the energy to play this game while Alabama, who had a lesser season than Clemson, gets to sit at home?

Well Clemson is getting a pass for losing to POS Syracuse because the QB was hurt. Nobody is giving Bama a pass for having 4 injured LB's and a gimpy O-lineman.

I would prefer this. Play your regular season schedule and then go to the playoffs. It would make for a more exciting CFB playoff IMO.

1) Clemson beat the "playoff caliber team" you're talking about
2) The season is complete, and Clemson is #1 and Alabama is #5

You skipped answering the first question though!

The timing of the loss is clearly more important than who you lost to.

Conference championship games should be looked at like the first rd of the playoffs. If you win you're in

I agree to an 8-team playoff IF you're only going to have it among the P5 conferences but I don't agree with scrapping the conference winner.

Winning your conference should count for something. In EVERY OTHER SPORT the conference winner is GUARANTEED to go to a post-season tournament.

In a P5 playoff, the winners of the SEC, ACC, Big 10, Big 12, and PAC-12 should be guaranteed a playoff spot. Then pick the next best three teams.

(Of course, I would then hold a similar G5 playoff with the winners of the Sun Belt, Mountain West, American, C-USA, and MAC plus three more)

Yes. Don't ignore conference championship games when deciding the best 4 teams in the country. They go into the analysis like every other game.

Explain how this solves the problem of 2nd place divisional finishers moving into the top-4 after conference champ weekend.

What I'm gathering is that you want the final regular season standing to remain the CFP standings. No changes.

Correct?

Because any other alternative is going to allow a non-divisional winner to jump up into the final 4.

this is the trade off for having one. Want extra revenue for your conference? Take the risk of your team getting left out the play offs.

Well the issue with that, if there is one, is you aren't playing games on neutral sites all year. Does Auburn beat Bama on a neutral site? probably but it may not have been by 12 points. Last year Penn State beat OSU at home by 3. was OSU better on a neutral site?

Conference title games are played "supposedly" where there isn't home field advantage, although in Georgia and North Carolina it will probably be a bit more tilted, and the Pac 12 I think still does higher ranked team at home

There can be movement after CC weekend, but only winners of those games moving ahead of losers of those games. I have a hard time rewarding teams for failing to win their own division. Am I crazy or what?

If you can't penalize a team for losing the championship game, the only movement in your scenario is if two top 4 teams play each other?

They have played at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara since it opened.

So, pretty big advantage to Stanford, really.

You have 10 P5 divisional winners. Let 'em play their CC games and then pick your top 4 from those 5 winners.

Conference championship games are played to determine conference champions.

Confining yourself to a 5 team field of P5 winners would lead to absurd results.
