I’m just starting. Got 20 months left but I agree with this so far.

I really need to look into going for my MBA. Price, schools, etc.

President of local chapter TMA was there. I cannot remember all of the other firms but a number were former Deloitte. One firm was Ankura and I cannot remember the others.

A&M and AlixPartners recruit the program hard FWIW. We have three students headed to those.

We have had some great threads over the years discussing MBA programs. There are a number of posters that are currently pursuing in a variety of formats. Everything from Top 20 full time, to working professional programs, to online (See the LSUS thread).

What if I told you he goes to the same MBA program you went to?

I took the Level 1 when I was still living in New Orleans, and then I kinda drifted away and went into a more rigorously quantitative route. I actually registered to take Level 2, but then I got a job as a quant model developer at a major bank, and just left all that CFA stuff behind.

But then I moved to New York, and last year I became...

... and, man, I am stressed out and pushed to my limits every week. I question how long I can survive in this world. I don't think it's this way for everyone, but I just happened to get roped into working for a really difficult banking client--so I can't imagine anyone doing what I'm doing with a family or kids. I can't complain though, because yeah, it does pay well.

Learned more usable knowledge in one year of mba school than I did in all 4 years of undergrad.

MBB is great for 2 years and is a stamp on the resume but it’s a really tough gig. Nonetheless, congrats on entering in at that level because they don’t do experience hiring very often, especially at EM/PL level.

You are getting it from all directions in your role...terrible clients and partners that have a stick up their arse. It’s a grind but the money and prestige are top notch.

We had guest speakers from distressed / turnaround consulting firms. It was a pretty fascinating discussion and I could see that being an interesting career path.

I will hopefully be interviewing at several of the top restructuring shops in January. Restructuring is fascinating to me, although it is adding a mega shite ton of material for me to study, on top of the regular items.

Yeah, I left out a step when I posted. They first hired me as a very expendable SME senior consultant to be paid as a contractor on an hourly basis. It was over a year later before they gave me the FTE offer at the EM/PL level.

Plus, I work in model risk and CCAR consulting, which is treated as its own thing, separate from the business groups for IT consulting or general business consulting. People ask me questions all the time about what my firm is like, and I'm like, "I barely know anything about my own firm." Weird, but true.

EDIT: Anyway, I'm done for the week after working a half-day, and I've got the rare week-long vacation coming up, so I plan to enjoy it.

It is what it is, man. I'm already plotting my exit strategy every week of every month. I know I can make the switch to the buy-side if I really wanted, but at a lower position than would be ideal. So I keep waiting for just the right opportunity to make the jump. It will come eventually.

Some of the quant folk doing stress test modeling are obscenely bright. I only look at it on a broad basis.

Exam in the morning. I don't think I will ever feel "ready" but I have learned a lot and am as confident as I can be at this point.

Overall, the class is checked out and ready to graduate so that should help my place on the curve... Albeit my "give a shite" is starting to wane

ETA: Exam was brutal...but it’s over

This sounds like part of the Level 2 CFA Examination, except on that exam you can just punt the derivatives portion as long as you do well on everything else

Currency forwards and futures can also be a bear

Yo, any idea why every post you have in this thread is downvoted (usually multiple)? This isn’t the OT—votes are a pretty reliable metric of post quality on this board.

Downvoters, what’s the beef with lynx? He’s one of the better posters here.

It’s been going on for awhile now even on the MTB. Another poster and I mentioned it a few months back and the downvotes rained down
