Wrong. The F-22 production was cancelled due to direct pressure from Congress. Everyone kept going with the BS narrative that the F-22 hadn't been used in combat even though the type of combat we've been in since 2003 doesn't need the capabilities the F-22 was made for (air superiority). Now, everyone wants to compare the F-35 to the F-22 from an air superiority point of view. Problem is the F-35 wasn't designed for that. The F-35 is a strike aircraft. It's air-to-air capabilities are for self defense only. Think of the F-35 as a more survivable F-15E Strike Eagle.

Well whatever, it’s going to prove to be a wasteful purchase and not suitable for the type of combat we’ll be seeing in the near future. It would do well against say, Iran, but would be nearly useless in war against China. Our near peer competitors will develop radar that can detect and target it. It would be better to invest in ballistic and cruise missile and long range strategic bombers than in short range, low payload tactical strike aircraft.

The 22 is so old...that I had a SEGA Genesis game called f22 interceptor over 25 years ago.
Point being the next generation fighters are probably already being tested.
We will have others built.
Though if they will be adopted is another story. (The f23 is a beast as well, the f20 was cool too, but the F16 updates beat it out)

Our weapons systems are so much better now that dog fights would likely never happen again anyway.
The 22 and 35 can each lock onto and destroy multiple targets at once without the need for visual reference.
I don't think we will need to dog fight.
The Chinese have their own planes and Russian planes. Russia still designs very maneuverable planes, but nothing that we can't detect on radar.
So everything else about the plane is null and void.

What happens when everyone's stealth is so good that you can't find or track anything with radar anymore?

Electronic Countermeasures are already in place that would serious Frick up radar and IR sensors
We will be unpleasantly surprised with the high number of dogfights that happen at the onset of WWIII
Example, one EF-18 Growler can knock out radar for hundreds of miles. It can also target specific locations and fry all the electronics in the area

The fact ppl in the military think CAS will fall off is further proof that our services are being run by academics instead of warriors

it might not be rule #1 in warfare but "Do not rely on one weapons platform for a battlefield task" is high up there
Look at Vietnam as an example. War theorists thought that missiles would push dogfights into obsolesence. As a result our air to air kill ratios was shockingly bad for a while.
We also had to rearm ourselves with piston engined aircraft to provide CAS until the A-10 was debuted.
There will always be a demand for low level, maneuverable, and tough CAS aircraft.
