Do you think we will ever develop another manned fighter jet?

It seems like unmanned is the future. The F22 is a badass aircraft but with advances in technology it makes less and less sense to develop things like this. Plus with unmanned you can do stuff you couldn’t with manned like perform higher g maneuvers or hell who knows what.

I suspect jamming devices for drones will be the next step in defense so you would want to keep manned jets going.

Probably after China hacks all our drones and turns them on us we'll throw a pilot back in there.

Should we just surrender to skynet today?

It's going to be hard to replace manned close air support with remote drones. This is why as hard as they've tried they can't get rid of the A-10 Warthog

Yes.
Have you not seen star wars? Are TIE fighters not manned?

I can easily imagine a future where drone swarms could be far for effective at CAS than Hogs. If our soldiers had transponders like planes the drones could pick off enemy combatants within feet of US troops. The drones could be relatively small for soft targets.

Air to air combat has almost been eliminated for the US because of technology.

Nevertheless, I still think we will always need a motherfricka on the trigger.

Computers will never be able to problem solve (or fail) like humans.

Humans are unpredictable and warfare needs that.

Close air support is going the way of the dodo bird regardless of the increase in drone use. Our surface to surface fires are becoming more accurate and responsive by the day. They require less coordination and much less logistical support and costs. Look at the battle of Raqqa in Syria. Marine artillery fired so many rounds, most of them precision guided munitions just as accurate as a JDAM, that they literally wore their barrels out and had to put the guns out of service.

F-22 hands down. But our all knowing and wise Defense Department shut down production so they could build the F-35. It’s gonna nite us in the arse when we fight China.

I honestly hope we at least some in the hopper that we don't know about.

It's a trip how Skunkworks was building the F-117 down the street from the Star Wars set in the 70's. Though even with the "F" designation the Nighthawk is a bomber and not a fighter jet.

With the crazy leaps in drone tech it's not unfathomable that repurposed versions of Raptors and 35's are the last manned fighter airframes, but I sure hope not.
