The importance of the last two drafts cannot be overstated

Rankins, Bell, Onyemata, Lattimore, Williams, Hendrickson all forming the base of the improved defense. Rankins, Lattimore, and Williams appear to be studs for the future.
Michael Thomas is a clear cut impact #1 WR.
Ryan Ramczyk has started every snap as a rookie at a position that is not only crucial to the entire performance of the offense, but has been a moving target for this team the past few years.
Alvin Kamara is the dynamic versatile back that makes Seaon Payton's offense complete, which has been lacking since the departure of Darren Sproles.
Also consider the horrendous shape this team has been in salary cap wise, due in no small part to shite drafting which lead to shelling out money in FA. Good drafts like the past two years allow you to get 4-5 years of production out of top talent at bargain salaries. If Lattimore pans out, you're getting five years of elite corner at a scheduled rate. It's incredible.
As much as I've shite on this team's dreadful past drafts (2012-2014 were just horrible), they are due praise for turning it around. Has to be Jeff Ireland, no?

I loved everything you said until you said "if lattimore pans out"

Ok, “continues to pan out”. I’m not in the jinxing business.

He definitely gets a lot of credit. It's like night and day. However I think it's no coincidence that the defense is playing better with new LB and D-line coaches.

Do the saints have the youngest defense in the NFL? Are there numbers on this anywhere?

I can confirm the internet does not contain this information probably because everyone on all of the internets are too lazy and/or don't know how to use Microsoft Excel 97.
But what I did find is that the Rams had the youngest team in the NFL last year on opening day at the average age of 25. If my excel skills are as good as I believe them to be, the Saints defense as of our last game against Tampa Bay has an average age of 25.08. So it's probably safe to say the Saints have a very young defense.

They have the youngest NFL defense since 1991

I knew without looking it up that we'd be the youngest defense this year, but since 1991? Damn!

[link=(ESPN article)]https://www.espn.com/blog/buffalo-bills/post/_/id/29045/cardinals-have-nfls-oldest-roster-browns-the-youngest[/link] on this subject from September, oldest offense and youngest defense.

Without Strief our offense got a good bit younger. Probably still near the top but not at it I imagine.

Thank you , Jeff Ireland for overhauling our scouting and eval dept, which sucked balls for a decade.

Imagine if we can have one more great draft how amazing this team could be the next few years.
Give me a DT, LB, TE, G, WR.

These two past drafts turned this franchise around & further seem to illustrate many frustrating what-could-have-been contender scenarios.
How many Super Bowl/NFCCG/playoff appearances/wins would the Saints have had, had they put together consistent solid drafts post-2009?
It's not hard to imagine they could have been at an always-contending New England level.
Instead, some department fricked around long enough until Brees was in the twilight of his career before he/Saints finally get another shot at a title.
Better late than never tho.

Yes indeed the Future looks bright! Some solid Draft Classes! Also Alex Anzalone (minus the Patriots game)is going to be an impact player too!

I knew Ireland hire would be big time.

How are we gonna keep Ireland after this year? Surely, he'll get GM job, right?
Posted on 11/10/17 at 8:18 pm to Mad Dogg
He should have our GM job.
