We will, assuming we don’t have an offseason at that position like we did on the OL this year.

You believe we'll be better off having lost all this experience?
LaCouture
Key
Gilmore
Herron
That's a lot of experience. LaCouture has been playing All SEC caliber DE. I wish Herron wasn't such a question mark off the field, would've been nice to have him all year.
I hope you're right.
The depth next year looks nice. Just hope the quality is as good.

Not everyone. I was defending him weeks ago. We have some really, really stupid fans.

Arden Key Replacement
Spare the "he is one of a kind, irreplaceable" shpeal
Who is going to replace this guy next year?
The same guy who replaced him early this year.

Erroneous.
Lawrence, Alexander, Shelvin, Fehoko, and the freshmen from this year that played early.
That is the best DL we’ve had since 2011 if they all stay healthy and Aranda stays.

If you include Key as a DL then we won’t have any one individual that can disrupt the way he does, but overall I still think it will be better. I think Herron would have been a big piece to the puzzle this year but the fact is he has only played in three games so far. They won’t be replaced by guys who haven’t played, but I should have added in the original reply that along with avoiding the offseason BS they also have to continue to develop and progress.

People forget Fehoko is very experienced.

Chaisson and Drake Davis. Victims of only playing 2 years of HS football. Both are overwhelmed right now. If it wasn't for injuries/suspensions Chaisson would have never played earlier this season. Not close to ready.

Chaisson
But he is irreplaceable. I’m sorry generational talents at defensive end aren’t just hanging around on our bench.

K'Lavon will start. He started when Key was out and he's played football for about two years. He needs to add about 40lbs and he can be an every down back

Good point. Fehoko and Shelvin are supposed to be studs that can replace LaCouture and Gilmore/Herron. Chaisson will grow up and be better. We may take an initial hit, but I think we will be pretty strong up front anyway.

Where has Chaisson been the last couple of games. Didn't see him in Bama game at all!!!! His playing time has decreased greatly!!
Posted on 11/7/17 at 9:31 am to helllo_heisman002
I think Chasson based on what I've seen is better suited for the F spot replacing Thompson, though I think you'll prob see Divinty there & KLa at the buck

Yeah, that was true then.
With world class type athletes like Key, losing even 5 pounds makes a dramatic difference in his performance. The more weight you have the more energy you have to expend to move it.

Are Sci and the Anthony guy gonna step up?

K’Lavon is the next closest thing but still not really close. He will be missed
Chaisson certainly has a way to go, but in limited action behind Key he has 19 tackles, 3.5 TFLs and 2.0 sacks. That's not bad from a backup role.
Here's the amazing thing about Chaisson:
quote:
Chaisson was also named to the Texas AP Class 6A All-State team after a season in which he registered 50 tackles, including 13 for loss, to go along with state-leading 15.5 sacks and three forced fumbles.
Earlier this spring, he was invited to Nike’s “The Opening” Finals, a star-studded camp featuring more than 150 of the players in the country, in Beaverton, Ore., where he’ll compete against other outstanding talents that have been playing football way longer than he has.
The scary part is that after one year of football, there’s a lot talent that remains untapped.
If you remember he went to camp with friend Eric Monroe and Aranda spotted him running drills for fun and LSU offered him on the spot. He wasn't even on his HS team and in 1 year became the #4 WDE in the country. This kid is raw, but special.

Outside of the last 2 games, Key has been a huge disappointment . There will be drop off in talent but won't be much drop off in actual production.

The story about Chaisson not playing high school ball needs to stop, it’s getting as bad as the “Bregman never played shortstop prior to LSU” myth.
Yes, he was raw. No, the LSU camp was not the first time he ever stepped on a football field. He was a member of his high school team, had just finished Spring practice going into his junior season, and hadn’t yet been a varsity starter. Somehow that morphed into the myth we hear today.
And Aranda was coaching Wisconsin at the time of that camp, so the story is even more absurd.

5 pounds could be water weight and doesn’t make a difference. It’s negligible.
