I agree that people who respond this way to suicide are assholes... but that doesn’t mean it’s not selfish. It’s pretty much the most selfish decision anyone could make. Having said that, I can certainly empathize with people who are feeling that low. I can’t imagine having to deal with that kind of hurt and depression.

Yep, if you can go against all basic human survival instinct and want to kill yourself, then you are clearly in a very sick mental mindset that most of us will fortunately never understand. Your an idiot if you think its selfish.

Very glad this was the first response. That "it's selfish" response burns me the frick up irl.

No they aren't, they are correct. If the response is to someone dealing with the loss of someone through suicide, it is, itself, a selfish and thoughtless response. But it may be a visceral reaction to a suicide that hits close to home in which someone feels betrayed and abandoned by the person who committed suicide (I have to close friends whose fathers committed suicide, one older than me and one younger).
The fact is, however, that most who commit suicide are in a very dark place and cannot clearly see any way out (even if it seems obvious to everyone else) or the consequences of their actions. Suicide is selfish by I contend it is rarely done for selfish reasons.
I can't imagine losing a child, I lost a sister about a year ago and that was bad enough. But if you have other children, parents or siblings, those people can be an anchor for you to stay around.
