Box stand looking down 2 lanes and a feeder in a pine thicket. Propane heater keeping it warm in here.

Had a pretty interesting hunt on the pipeline yesterday. Saw deer all day. Probably over 20 all between 250 and 400 yards away. Finally 30 minutes before dark, a rack buck and a spike come out at about 350. There’s a couple small hills where they’re at. So I climb down and ease along the edge of the woods about 150 yards and get propped up against the feeder.

I look up and the spike is coming out of a draw walking towards me. I don’t know where the other buck is, but I had a feeling the spike was about to bolt by the way he was acting. So I went ahead and took him at 75 yards. I hated to shoot him head on, but the bullet entered center of his chest and came out behind his shoulder not messing up much meat.

Good luck out there fellas. Headed to church but going to try and get out there this afternoon.

I can't remember a prettier opening weekend.

Not in the stand, but squirrel hunting. Just spent 20 min and 2 extra shots to get dead one out tree after it got hung 20 ft up. Now every creature in 3 miles knows I'm here and the poor squirrel is dang near deboned.
