Ducks for my pond

I have a camp in southern Mississippi on a few hundred acres that’s got a big pond near the house. I was thinking of putting 4-5 ducks in there, just for the kids to feed. We go to the place about every other weekend, so they would be on their own a good bit, though the neighbors could feed them. Would they be able to feed themselves any? Would they need a house? How likely something eats them? Bad idea?

are you asking about getting pet ducks on a board that murders ducks?

You got a camp and a few hundred acres and you are asking these questions? Does your husband know you are on the computer?

They will either fly away if you don’t feed them constantly or get eaten.

What? Care and management of pet ducks is expected knowledge? I said it’s a camp, I wasn’t raised on a farm. Come on guys, I don’t feel like I’m getting a lot of helpful feedback here

Coyotes will get them within a few days/weeks. I had some as a kid and they lasted about a week then pile of feathers

Get 30 ducks. It will be 5 before you know it

Sorry about the assholes. This board is definitely worse than it was a couple of years ago.
Anyway, you would need to get the ducks young or clip their wings. Either way you would need to be there most everyday to imprint on them that you’re trying to help them.
If your only there once every couple of weeks, I’m afraid they wouldn’t last long. And after they molted they would fly at the first signs of wild ducks if they didn’t get regular food.

OP, a very bad idea. Heck, I want some for my pond, but my dog would get them.

Thanks for the advice. I guess I’ll see if my neighbors want to feed ducks every day...

They will be fine. Yes, they can feed themselves, unless your pond is a dead barren dump.
You can put those plastic boxes with holes cut in them and hay inside for the ducks to lay eggs.
Many people put a small covered platform in the middle of the lake so they can lay there and predators can't get to them.

Put up wood duck boxes. You won’t be able to feed em bread crumbs, but they are fun to watch,

I put ducks in my pond at home last spring. I now have more than I want as the neighbors ducks came over and will not leave
- Get mature ducks. Baby ducks will get eaten pretty fast.
- convert deer feeder to duck feeder, ducks will not leave
not to difficult
