Grant Delpit appears to be making the leap from freshman to future star. In the last 2 games he has 17 Tackles (14 solo) 2.5 TFL, 3 PBUs and 1 INT. After he got faked out on the TD pass in the beginning of the Auburn game he has been lights out. If he continues to play this way and can contribute in run support like he has done the past 2 weeks our potential to compete with and/or beat Bama goes up significantly.

He is definitely proving to be the player that coaches were raving about during the spring and is following in the footsteps of Jamal Adams.

Wasn't he in coverage on the TE on most of the long completions vs Ole Miss?

He's been good but not lights out. I think he'll be a great one.

He is getting better every game. He has a high ceiling and will continue to grow. Another great DB that continues to make LSU The DBU of the CFB world.

I've seen at least two plays where i thought to myself is that Jamal Adams it was when he flew down hill from his safety spot to hit the ball carrier

NAh Delpit plays center field most of the time. John Battle was covering that tight end and some plays Corey Thompson

He is definitely putting it together...as a true freshmen i've been really impressed. Yes, he's missed some assignments but he has definitely has done more good than harm. He is going to be another great one for us and in the NFL.

If he continues the pace so far, he'll be very close to that by bowl game.

Not super excited about a safety getting 8.5 tackles per game, but Delpit's play has been impressive of late.

Not saying he couldn't have covered better on the play but Eric Monroe was supposed to give him help over the top on that play.

Here's where I got that from; Dellenger's film room article.

quote:

Break it up (DB analysis) Last week it was Donte Jackson and Kevin Toliver, but this week, Greedy Williams had the most impressive outing based on numbers alone. His one pass breakup was in the end zone, and he allowed just one completion on seven targets. And the completion went for 8 yards. Here's the targets-catches rundown for the DBs

Greedy Williams: 1 for 7 (8 yards)
Donte Jackson: 3 for 8 (32 yards)
Kevin Toliver: 1 for 5 (15 yards; 2 pass interference)
Grant Delpit: 6 for 7 (87 yards)

Ole Miss used its tight end a good bit, and Delpit was on coverage there. Orgeron mentioned that in the postgame news conference, expressing disappointment in the coverage of Rebels tight end Dawson Knox.

I feel like delpit is ahead of where Adams was as a freshman. People talk about delpit getting burned in the auburn game must have forgot about Adams getting burned on the same route in his last game as a tiger against Louisville. shite happens good players get burned sometimes. Idk if delpit will be as good or better than Adams but he def stands out more to me as a freshman more than Adams did to me

When a safety has high tackle totals that generally means the line and backers are playing poorly.... not always the case but thats what he's referring to....

I dont. Delpit is good and will be even better but Adams was SPECIAL from the start.

If a safety is getting a lot of tackles then it usually means the offense is getting chunk plays because he's the last line of defense

He reminds me a lot of Laron Landry as a freshman, more so than Jamal Adams.

Your safety making 8.5 tackles per game isn't usually ideal for a defense.

That's not a knock on Delpit.

Looks more and more like a young J. Adams, and he is getting far more starting reps than Adams did as a FR. He is making plays in both the running and passing games. We'll need him sneaking up to the LOS and knifing through to drop Bama backs next Sat.
With continued offseason conditioning and development, he is going to be a force next season as a SOPH.

Considering he been one of the best tacklers on the team since day one he deserved the right to figure it out. The kid really a difference maker

Mathieu led the team in tackles when we had superior DL play.

Delpit is also very good against the run. Probably our best safety all around honestly.

He has 37 tackles in 8 games which is give or take 4 or 5 tackles a game.

I understand the thread is about the last 2 games but let's not act like he has 60 plus tackles on the year.
