WWL-TV Anchor Eric Paulson received word from the family early Wednesday morning. His daughter said he was surrounded by family and friends and died peacefully.
Domino was well-known for songs like "Blueberry Hill' and "Walkin' To New Orleans."

Love the story about how Bobby Charles (Guidry, cher) wrote this song for Fats.
But, Fats was fantastic. Walkin' to New Orleans was one of Pops Midnight's favorite songs. Although a white dude, as a young man, Pops kind of favored Fats.
Good times...

All time great. Think he was one of the first few inductees into the RnRHOF.

RIP one of Rock and Roll's founders

RIP, Fats.
Randy Newman says he still essentially can't write a song that isn't vastly influenced by Fats. Can't think of higher praise.
Can't believe Katrina has been 12 years...

Yep, in the first class in 1986. Fats was known for his pioneering rock'n'roll hits like "Blueberry Hill" and "Walking to New Orleans". However, the man could rock the keys when he wanted. Here's one many on you may have not heard before. R.I.P. Fats.

When it comes to actual "rock and roll" - there are only 7 piano players who actually matter:
Fats
The Killer
Ray Charles * (Genre defining - there is a good chance Ray Charles is the finest American popular musician ever created)
Little Richard
Billy Powell
Rick Wright
Billy Joel
(8 if you count Sir Elton)
And, other than Killer and, maybe, Little Richard, in his prime, Fats could play with any of them.

Damn - looking at my list we're now down to Killer, Little Richard, Billy Joel (and Sir Elton).
Jerry Lee might outlive them all.

Sad and one of the few good characters in NOLA.

Thanks for the memories, Fats. Sat probably five feet from his piano at the Fountainbleu on Tulane in the late sixties or early seventies. He worked that piano over bigtime.
