Vietnam - I think within 20 years.

First world = USA and allies during Cold War Second world = Soviet Union and allies during Cold War Third World = developing countries
I don't doubt this is what it means, but it seems an odd definition since it is almost always used in the context of rich vs poor countries.

First world is Western capitalist countries, second is emerging former communist countries. And China, I suppose.

Yes, China was always considered part of the 2nd world. And 3rd world was also called 'non aligned' instead of 'undeveloped.' 'Non aligned' meant they did not military support anyone in the Cold War.

I'd look at SE Asia.

You have to have a functional culture to become first world, that eliminates just about every country outside of Eastern Europe, Southern South America and parts of East Asia. Nigerians children could start shitting gold and they would frick it up somehow.

I don't think China will allow any country in SE Asia who isn't already considered first world, as the term is used today, to become first world. IMO their dominance in the region will strengthen and spread over the next 20 years which they will use to stifle challenges.
I'd go Eastern European with Poland as the best shot as they've avoided a lot of the stupidity of the EU, but they are and always be weary of Russia stifling that like China in SE Asia.

Singapore is already a first world country. Their GDP per capita is nearly the same as the US.

Lots of corruption, although the current leader is starting to tackle that. Overpopulation is also a huge problem. I just don't see it.
