They have way to much extreme poverty by first world standards to join that group. They may join the group one day, but it will be much longer than 20 years IMO. Their rise will also meet a stern challenge from China. They already have border skirmishes now. Let India keep really progressing and it will get worse.

south Korea, Japan, and west germany all become first world pretty quickly.

In the case of S. Korea, they really did not become "1st World" until the early 1980's. Japan prior to WWII had been rapidly industrializing and could have been considered First World even as far back as WWI. West Germany.....Germany had been the most industrialized countries since the 1860's, so after we destroyed them and then rebuilt them, they just reassumed their place

I dont see any African country ever being first world outside of maybe Egypt and that's simple due to proximity to Saudi.

South Africa was probably the closest. Aside from that, Morocco, Tunisia, are close.

I was thinking Argentina as well. I don't know why the place can't get out of its own way. It has a mostly European population made up of Spanish, French , Italian and German stock , like the United States who are decently educated, large amount of land to feed its population and a lot of untapped natural resources.

UK, Ireland, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Canada, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea are the only true first world countries

USA is single payer health care away from joining them

So the leading economy in the world for over a century that saved the world in WWII isn't first world because it lacks a socialist healthcare policy?

America leads the world when it comes to access to higher education. But when it comes to health, environmental protection, and fighting discrimination it trails many other developed countries, according to the Social Progress Imperative.

Knew right here the article was opinionated trash. So we need what amounts to "free" healthcare to join other developed nations, but we lead them all with access to higher education when we don't have "free" education like the others? Contradicts the point. Also, free does not equal access. Have you ever been turned down for emergent medical care in the US? Are you ever put on a waiting list for medically necessary surgical procedures in the US? Universal healthcare restricts access to healthcare because it doesn't work if it doesn't. The argument is money, not access.

Environmental protection and discrimination don't have anything to do with first world status.

No rational person in the world would believe the US is the premier economy and power in the world, yet isn't in a group of nations considered the "first world."

I don't know if you already consider these countries as first world countries, but I would say the easiest predictions would be the Baltic States countries of the former USSR, Lithuania, Estonia, and Latvia. They're technically savvy with strong internet infrastructure. As long as they can keep being swallowed again by Russia, the future should be bright for them. But that depends on Putin, and if Trump can stop giving Putin a free pass.
