this is her trial on the 12/7/16 charge of 2nd offense DWI. remember that she was out on bond on the charge from this arrest, when she killed her victim on the causeway. those charges (vehicular homicide, DWI, etc) are pending in jefferson parish.
also recall that her attorney (ralph whalen) is very well connected, and has defended aaron broussard, tom wilkinson, and other well known figures in and around NOLA.
finally, recall that her 1st offense DWI was resolved by pre-trial diversion, and no longer "counts".
if her attorney can continue to postpone trial on the 12/7 2nd DWI until the JP charges go to trial, it will prevent aggravating circumstances (prior DWI) from affecting her sentencing if convicted of vehicular homicide. this could all be part of a plea deal on everything, as well.
meanwhile, james blackmond remains dead at last check

The trial of a Covington woman facing a DWI charge from an incident that occurred several months before she was accused of causing a fatal crash while driving drunk on the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway has been continued until Dec. 19. Olivia Matte was scheduled for trial Tuesday (Oct. 10) in 22nd Judicial District Court in Covington in connection with her Dec. 7, 2016, arrest by Louisiana State Police on the North Shore but the proceeding was postponed at the request of her attorney.
The postponement marked the second time the trial was delayed. It had originally been scheduled for May 9 before being continued until Tuesday.

Olivia Matte's DWI trial postponed a 3rd time
Olivia Matte was scheduled for trial Tuesday (Dec. 19) in 22nd Judicial District Court in Covington in connection with her Dec. 7, 2016, arrest by Louisiana State Police on the North Shore. But the proceeding was postponed until April 24 at the request of her attorney, a court officials said.
as always, a connected attorney is worth whatever the cost
