Ouch. A big swing and a miss. Sucks for them.

Ya'll do realize Mexico is in the thing, right?

Mexicans have Univision

Ok dude, when the World Cup is trouncing the shite out of mid-Summer MLB and everything else next year, be sure to revisit this topic.
What were the ratings for games not involving the USMNT during the last World Cup? How many games not involving the USMNT were broadcast?
Why would the World Cup "trounce the shite" out of mid-Summer MLB when MLS doesn't "trounce the shite" out of the Scripps National Spelling Bee?
Come on, let's see some numbers, big guy. Put your money where your mouth is.

No one cares about soccer except 10 year olds.

You think mid-summer MLB is drawing those numbers?
Sunday Night Baseball, one of the few national broadcast games, averaged 1.8M viewers in 2017.

Averaged 4.6 million American viewers over 64 matches.
Now take away the USA games.
What did it average?
I asked about the NON-USMNT GAMES.
Yeah, the World Cup Final did well. So does every other Championship game.

I did my homework. You do yours.
World Cup is going to win against mid-summer MLB.
Accept it.

Bitch response. Prove your point, or STFU. How many people watched games that a) did not involve the USMNT, and b) were not the Championship?
Hell, I'll make it easier. What does an MLS game draw on TV? People have about as much attachment to that as they would a team from Croatia.

I know how these arguments go. You're not going to accept any evidence I provide. You're going to move the goalposts.
And LOL at your dumbass somehow thinking MLS TV ratings is indicative of World Cup TV ratings.
Have a good day, dumbass. See you next year.

quote:Being that traditional, domestic born Americans don't watch soccer as it is, why would they watch if America isn't in it? A huge chunk of the ratings in the U.S. come from casual, patriotic sports fans that are just tuning in to see the U.S. team.
There is more than enough interest in the World Cup regardless of whether the US is there or not lol.

I don't have to move the goalposts. The USMNT hasn't missed a World Cup since 1986. There is no dataset to prove what kind of viewership there will be for a World Cup without the US involved at any stage.
When the US is involved, I'll watch US games. Other than that, I don't care about any other match or country.

They actually got a great deal due to FIFAs frick up. Pretty sure it didn't even go through the bid process.
They outbid espn by $200m

Yeah, I'm not a fan of soccer but I'll watch the WC all day long.

I bet Saturday morning EPL on NBC gets better ratings than most regular season baseball games
I remember reading an article that for the first since NBC bought the rights, ratings for EPL were down in the US.
These EPL games get about 500k viewers in the US. I can promise you national TV MLB games get way more viewers than that. ESPN Sunday Baseball gets almost 2 million views.
Posted on 10/11/17 at 8:31 am to StrongBackWeakMind
I am not arguing with you because overall I agree with your point, but it will be very interesting to see the ratings for this WC with the games at bad times and no US in it. I think it will be a big barometer for where the sport is at in the US.
