re: Am I the only person who doesn't buy in to the Nikola Tesla hype?

I have a engineering and physics background, and I agree the whole Tesla thing is hyped way beyond what it really was.

He did tell Albert Einstein that his first law of relativity was a joke and called him a fool.
Tesla actually did. He didn't believe in relativity.

A lot of the "crazy" ideas he had have been proven to be correct years later.
Like cosmic rays moving faster than the speed of light?
How about wireless power transmission?
How about that death ray?
My OP stated that he did a bunch of really high level stuff. Developed technology before it's time. I definitely give him credit for all of that. I put him at the top of engineering and inventing.

It was Edison that killed the animals to claim that AC power was dangerous. Elephants were one of the animals killed to prove this point.
Edison got off easy in the PR game, IMHO.

He is the one who electrocuted an elephant?
Oh wait no that was Edison

Take a few physics courses and you’ll realize that the man was on the next level of genius.
What he is “known for” isn’t a tenth of what he actually did to advance the world of physics.

I wish Tesla and Edison were alive, so they could meet at Sonic and settle this once and for all.

He described relativity as "a beggar, wrapped in purple, whom ignorant people took for a king." In support of his statement he cited a number of experiments he had conducted, he said, as far back as 1896 on the cosmic ray. He has measured cosmic ray velocities from Antarus, he said, which he found to be fifty times greater than the speed of light, thus demolishing, he contended, one of the basic pillars of the structure of relativity, according to which there can be no speed greater than that of light.
That's some next level stuff. Or lies. Whichever.

Nikola Tesla is an example of somebody who's done an amazing job and is being recognized more and more, I notice.

It isn't like he was obscure in his day. He just stopped doing productive work as he went batshit crazy and fell into pigeon world. He was very well regarded in the science community as well as a sort of social celebrity (until he went batshit crazy).

Neither was Frederick Douglas...
Guess my reference was a little obscure.

I think he has been properly recognized throughout history. There just seems to be some renewed fascination with him in the last 15 years and the misheld belief that he was an obscure and unknown engineering god.
Then the usual lies about Edison screwing him and how the government covered up all his work.
Just look at the downvotes of my OP. There is some unnatural obsession with worshipping this guy.

Think it's a combo of Elon musk and the band.

Just to be clear I was being a smartass, I just replaced Frederick Douglas from a Trump quote with Tesla.

My faborite was when he and Gollum made all those hats for Hugh Jackman.

Are you a dumbass? Or just never heard of a Tesla Coil?
He brought more innovation to electricity than Edison could have dreamed of. He is the reason you can post on this message board.
