You are being totally disingenuous and short-sighted. Just a few decades ago, these very same rules on hostile learning environment and officially sanctioned groups would have been used AGAINST LIBERALS.

Ok? That's not what we've been discussing in this thread though.
Reread the OP. It's clearly about hired speakers. Universities have no obligation to hire a particular speaker. They can't ban that person from campus or prevent him/her from speaking entirely, but they don't have to pay and hand over a stage and a microphone

And that was the right decision. Ayers is absolutely disgusting, but he should be allowed to speak if it's a publicly funded University.
You can't just refuse to allow someone to speak because you find them distasteful.
Absolutely agree.

Of course they don't.

Um, that's what I've been saying and what OP disagrees with.

They're not paying.

Yes, they do. They decision in the Ayers case set the precedent (if there wasn't an earlier court case...not sure.)

I'm not saying they can ban you from speaking. I'm saying they don't have to provide a microphone and a stage.

But now you see the issue with interchanging magazine and clip.
If it were a car, and I kept confusing The lug nut with the tire it would get pretty aggravating.

where does the second amendment guarantee you a bump stock and extended clip?
Bump stock appears in the sentence just before abortion rights. The extended clips com one sentence after!

They do if they're a publicly funded university that allows guest speakers.
You can't provide a stage and mic to one speaker and not to another.

Telling someone you won't host them doesn't infringe on their 1st amendment right. Telling a group they can't protest does.
When your protest costs the public $500,000 to keep in control?

Well then I respectfully disagree. There's nothing in the first amendment about amplified speech, just speech
It also costs money to open up an auditorium. I don't see why anyone off the street should be guaranteed an auditorium

Publicly funded University. Either they allow anyone to speak or no one to speak. No in between.
He can speak on the sidewalk like every other street preacher.

So I can just travel around the country to public universities and demand a full auditorium so that people can listen to what I have to say? Is that what y'all are saying?

You think that would make the security detail less expensive?

I'm not saying a University can't decide that will their course of action (not providing venues for ANY speaker).
I'm saying that if the University guarantees an auditorium for one speaker, they must for all speakers.
If they provide security for one speaker, then they must for all speakers.
You cannot discriminate against speakers and continue to be funded by the public.

1. I don't believe that intellectual property is legit
2. The state is arguing that they are hosting stolen property. It's not a free speech issue.
Your point isn't logical

No, that's not at all what I'm saying. I'm saying you can't tell Spencer he can't speak and you won't provide him the same venue and security as you've provided other speakers just because you find him distasteful. Again, this is why Ayers won.

So I can call LSU and demand that they give me a microphone and a podium and their largest public conference room and they are compelled to do it? Just because other people get to present speeches in the room?
Sorry guys, that ain't the law. If it is, then you call them and demand they set up a stage, microphone and a room for you. Better yet, you call every university in the country and then report back to give us the schedule for your speaking tour.

Yes, that is what they are saying. And it's a complete load of nonsense.
