Why couldn't they reassign Alleva to some other role in the Athletic Dept, where he doesn't make major decisions? With a pay cut, if possible. Then keep him until his contract runs out, and then let him go.
Same reason LSU can't make Orgeron and Aranda switch positions, as I've heard suggested. Alleva probably has a contract to be the AD, and if he's removed from that position, his buyout kicks in. He doesn't just have a general employment contract with LSU that states they can use him however they please.

It's called Change of control and that would probably trigger his contract. Usually there are 2-3 triggers in a contract where he could take his buyout. I'm sure Alleva did this contract so there's probably 10 triggers. Haha

If people can’t realize this guy is the major problem then I feel for them. It always starts at the top. He is incompetent, period. All of our problems can be laid at his doorstep. There are others to blame as well but he is primarily responsible

LSU will continue to nosedive until Alleva is gone

the root of the problem is Alleva.
You have to cut the head off of the cancer before you can do anything.
again, what is the holdup?

Why does the AD have a buy out? Why does anyone have a buy out for that matter? Be good at your job or get fired.
Because the market dictates it

The root of the problem is the BOS.
F. King, Alleva, Orgeron etc are all symptoms of a lack of leadership at the top.
The governor appoints these folks.
The whole structure needs to be replaced to get politics out of it.
Then the school needs a leader who can work WITH the legislature and get funding support private and public.

if we aren't firing Orgeron this year, then keep Alleva as a puppet until they can ride the same UBER out of town.

No doubt but what in the h-ll is throwing away millions upon millions of dollars on incompetent people all about? Alleva never should have been hired let alone give any type of buyout.

I agree. It would seem to say to a top Management/prospect "LSU wants someone who is bold & accountable-- we're tired of wasting time/money."
The action would speak louder than words (firing Alleva) if backed up by the right attitude during interviews,
i.e. "we want someone to come in & clean this up, in fact we *want* someone to help us replace Orgeron"
as opposed to "come here & wait around because the buyout means Orgeron stays for 2 years."
Leaders & top management candidates in business are often brought in *for* their ability to dig out of this kind of mess.
We aren't looking for a corporate raider yet we do need someone who can deal with the problems we have, including someone known for their skill in dealing w/ budget-battles/contracts/etc.

If we could only summon the spirit of the Kingfish. Poor Huey must be rolling in his grave.

You are right. When you couple his ridiculous buyout with the buyout he gave CEO and the one he renegotiated with Les Miles he has cost the university over 20 million dollars that were completely and absolutely unnecessary.
Les' renegotiated contract (and the accompanying buyout) when he threatened to leave for Arkansas was not needed.....Les wasn't going anywhere. Ole Joe got played.
CEO's contract (and the accompanying buyout) when he became head coach was not needed. Ed would have taken the job for $100,000, no buyout and a large sack of peanuts. Ole Joe got played.
Alleva's contract (and accompanying buyout) when he became AD was not needed. Alleva was coming off arguably the biggest debacle and self-induced frick-up ever perpetrated by a collegiate athletic director. He was not worth what we paid him, let alone his buyout. Ole Joe played LSU.

No he doesn't. Probably closer to $1,487,500 today. His base salary is $525,000 a year. His contract runs to July 2020. His termination without cause-liquidated damages is 100% of base salary for remaining contract term. So, from today, he'd have right at 34 months remaining at $43,750 per month.

Fire him and let him take us to court. Hiring O The Rosy Finch Boyz is cause to terminate the contract alone. Throw in the $ and guaranteed buyout. No jury would side with Alleva.

Unfortunately, it's not.

Even if we can't fire O after this year, firing Alleva will send him a clear message that he doesn't have daddy's shoulder to cry on anymore if things keep going south. It will either light a fire under his arse or just make him quit, making canning him that much easier. Win-win.
This is the formula that has to be followed (listen to some of what Chris Landry has been saying). Even if it means keeping Orgeron a little longer, Alleva has to hit the road first so that he's not around when the next coaching hire occurs.

Did not realize it was that many $$
WTF is Alleva competing with Loomis for who can waste the most dollars being incompetent??

This all makes sense now that Alleva is trying to get fired to get that buyout

I Just got an email from the desk of F King Alexander. I thought he was announcing he is cleaning house with Alleva and O.. nope. It was the LSU 2025 Strategic Plan. I got excited for a second..
