Laurie Braden, LSU’s director of university recreation, has something to say about the most visual element of the school’s newly expanded recreation center.
Do not call it a lazy river.
“There is nothing lazy about the pursuit of health and wellness,” Braden said.
And there’s nothing understated about the new rec center.
The facility has more than doubled its previous 121,000 square feet. Where there used to be 10,000 square feet of fitness space, now there’s 42,000. The indoor track more than doubled in length to one-third of a mile. There are 185 pieces of cardio equipment, much of which is wheelchair-accessible.
The new student rec looks nicer than the Lifetime Fitness I used to go to.

Can you bring alcohol to the pools? Because if not, no one will use them.

Kids are so coddled. Use that shitty pool money to buyout that shitty football coach.

Replace Joe Alleva now.
Replace O and Canada in the spring.

Either students priorities have changed since I went to school or this is adult administrators trying to force their ideas onto the college experience. When I was in school there were three priorities:
Class
Girls
Partying
None of that involved going to a Student Rec Center.
Have things changed that much or is this just some BS dreamed up by the same crew who have vowed to "change the culture" of Greeks?

I'm honestly jealous. The rec was always very busy and congested when I was at LSU.

Damn, I wish I was in college again. I'd slay so much pussy doing curls in the squat rack.

Urec definitely gets used. I think it was a good investment.
I worked out there every day while in school. Was super convenient to walk over between classes. And anytime before 9am and after 1pm that thing is packed.

So now we send kids to school to pretend they are on vacation at Atlantis instead of actually going to class and learning?

I know plenty of people (including myself) who started working out again or for the first time because the Rec is too nice to pass up. I don't know anything about the construction but I'm enjoying the finished product almost every day. It's great.

Christ you people are stupid.
LSU was essentially dead last is UREC facilities in the SEC. This is being paid for by students through increased fees. God forbid we try whatever we can to get students wanting to attend the university.

You have to go in the morning if you don't want it to be jam frickin packed. When school started, I couldn't even find a parking spot when I went there from work. It's very nice though

It's ridiculous opulence in a time of economic uncertainty.
It's stupid, in many ways, to give it to young people, most of whom have never provided for themselves.
