Satsuma under attack

Something is eating the green fruit on my satsuma tree. Whatever is eating the fruit is making a quarter size hole in the peel and then eating every bit of the pulp out of the fruit. The peel is picked clean, with zero pulp left behind. I've had this tree for over 10 years and have never had anything like this happen. My first guess was some kind of a bird, but I don't know what bird would do this that hasn't been in the area before. Would mice do this? Some type of insect? I will post a pic later when I have time.

I’m also having similar trouble with my satsuma tree. I think it may be tree rats or fruit bats. Maybe someone else can chime in

Probably rats, set some traps and wrap the trunk in tin or something they can't climb (unless the tree is next to a fence or any other structure they can climb on).

raccoons love some satsumas. they can clean multiple trees out in a night. nothing left but the peelings.

I've got the same with a satsuma tree in my yard. I saw a squirrel in the tree, so I assumed that was the culprit. The tree is against a fence, so the squirrels can get to it easily. I blasted one squirrel off the fence with my pellet gun, but I can't watch it around the clock.

Thought you was saying the town of satsuma was under attack. Whatever it is, them baws can handle it.

My dad has been having similar problems. They flooded last year and the flood apparently carried in the rats. Several neighbors are trying to trap/kill the bastards, but are only having limited success.

You will need to bait if you want dead rats.

Or get a few outdoor cats. The property I moved onto used to have a lot of rats. Used to. My satsuma tree is unscathed.
I was amazed to learn that the wif's cats aren't completely useless.

Look up the 5 gallon bucket rat trap

Here are pics of my satsuma tree fruit that is being destroyed. In the first pic, the satsuma on the left still has fruit in it, but the top 1/4 looks like it was cut off. Fruit is still on the inside.
Can squirrels do this, or is the consensus is that it's rats?
My next door neighbor who is an MD is having the same issues with his tree in his yard. He said that he thinks it is some kind of citrus disease. He claims that he had one that was discolored, and picked it off the tree, and he noticed that it was very light, didn't weigh much. He got a knife and cut it in half and there was very little rind on the inside. But he can't come up with an explanation of why some of them are bored out with just the skin left.
Any ideas?

Raccoons. Guaranteed. Get a trap from the local pound. Just relocate them.

I did notice a hole under my wood fence recently. From the size of the hole, it's being used by a fairly large animal. A racoon does sound like the likely culprit.

I don't think it's raccoons causing it. I've never seen a coon or signs of one. I know there are possums in the neighborhood.

That definitely looks like an animal and not a disease to me. As said, set a trap and see what you catch.
