The island was already facing financial collapse and that was before being wiped out by the hurricanes

No. It doesn't make sense at all.

Yeah it does. Unless you want four million Puerto Ricans moving here.

Last I checked, they are still Americans, it doesn't need to make economic sense when we are dealing with our own.

There are some things that go beyond economics.

A person from Louisiana asking if we should rebuild PR? How many billions did it take to rebuild Louisiana after Katrina? How is a Louisiana American different from a Puerto Rico American?

Uh yes we have to.

Puerto Rico is threatening a mass exodus to the mainland if nothing gets done and if that happens, we lose Florida forever to the democrats and they will be starting in the electoral college at 260 votes from there on out.

They're american citizens and there's nothing we can do to stop them from moving.

Yes, unless they get independence, 2-3 million Dem votes will be moving to Florida

Conservatives need to be first to promise them free shite or Florida will be Dem forever if you are right.

This can't be stressed enough. Who cares about politics when this is at play.

I can promise you that the Trump administration and the entire republican caucus in Congress including the fiscally hawkish Freedom Cacucs, Justin Amash and Rand Paul will be tripping all over themselves to give Puerto Rico all the free shite they can give them and then more including navy ships bringing supplies as long as they need it.

Not one single republican wants a permanently democrat Florida and they will do everything they can to prevent that including going against their own fiscally conservative principles.

I just watched some PR actress/activist interviewed on TV.
Q: Is Donald Trump doing a good job?
A: No, I was so angry when I heard him. It reminded me when I was a child in school and people learned that I was from Puerto Rico. And they said 'Puerto Ricans are lazy and stupid.' I said "Puerto Ricans are US citizens." They were shocked.

I took this away from it:

a. She did not deny that Puerto Ricans are lazy and stupid.
b. Being a US citizen does not = you are not lazy and stupid.

Therefore, I don't think we need any more lazy, stupid people. Lord knows we got enough of them.

I'd rather Cuba do an aboutface on their economic policies and we make them a US territory.
