Rumor re: Puerto Ricans

The wife said there is a rumor that ER director got a memo to get ready. La. hospitals are about to get 3,000 sick Puerto Ricans because their hospitals don't have electricity.
I do not know if this is true. I do know that they expect an extended power outage there. But I would think their hospitals have emergency generators.

They are probably getting low on fuel for those generators.

This would run through my department at our hospital chain and we haven't heard a word.

I can see that.
We stood up a component of the hospital in anticipation of need post-Katrina

Why are so many places just dysfunctional ???

Do you think this is specific to LA? I would think they would try t send people to MS and AL as well if so because they are close and aren't dealing with their own hurricane problems.

One article I read said their power grid is so primitive they might be out for 6 months. That seems absurd. But then they might just be poor mouthing to get aid from the US.

Lol and democrats want them as a state

Not sure this applies here baw.
With the storm they just endured and the flooding that happened, mother nature is just a bitch.
When your entire power grid fails, that's a pretty big deal.

We are going to wind up with these people here one way or another. Ugh.

You's think the government would send a couple of hospital ships down there (if we still have any). They would be set up for large numbers of people.

Last I hear is that's what they were doing. The Navy was heavily involved.
We're part of a collaborative effort with 47 other hospitals, some as far away as the USVI. We haven't heard a peep even out of them as to needing help.

So now we're politicizing the plight of people in a US territory impacted by a category 5 hurricane. Let's move on guys.

I have some very strong professional relationships with Puerto Rico . They are wonderful to deal with in every respect. They are an American protectorate . They have had nine Medal of Honor winners . Now is their hour of need.
Of course we will be there for them any way we can. That's the deal we made. We honor our deals.

Seems unnecessarily distant. There are plenty of operational hospitals in Florida, the Carolinas, Georgia, Alabama, etc that would be much closer.

My concern would be who is footing the bill. The state of La. doesn't have any money.
