Also let's not forget the most criminal device of all: alimony. An antiquated and evil tool. It is 100% unnecessary in our women's liberation era. They want equality? Get rid of alimony.

Unfortunately he won't get a slam dunk win unless he can prove drugs or mental illness. Cheating/fricking/sucking dicks just isn't enough to take the kids away these days.
I won custody of my kids in both divorces. I won with Ex A because she was busted by the DEA trying to fill a fake prescription...she had custody at the time but I won my daughter back after that shite. Ex wife B had a mental breakdown and basically couldn't afford to battle me in court so I won that one too.

For sure. He grew up in a broken home and all he ever wanted was a family of his own. He had no idea how screwed up his in-laws were and was very naïve going into the relationship. Still nothing could have given him insight into the depths they would go. Most people are not that evil. What they've done should be a crime, and from what I understand it is a felony in some states.
pretty much what happened to me, except i grew up in a good home etc. but i had no idea how screwed up, evil, and bold face lies people would/could tell. worst case, i hired an absolute deadbeat horrible lawyer you could have. finally got so sick of it all just paid it all off to just get it behind me. the amount of fricking resentment i have towards her/them is off the charts. thank god no kids

Yep. Caught mine cheating. Got the house, car, dog, primary physical custody of the kids, and part of her military retirement.

Its a shame, but marriage really is a losing proposition for men, especially when things go south.

That illustration would be hilarious if it weren't so damn true and sad.

Any smart OT BAW would gender change before the divorce.

what about the system is so bad?
what do y'all think would help the system be less conflict-filled?

Men start from the 1 yard line while Women get the ball at the opponents 25. Already in FG range.

Hmm
Well for starters, any woman that has a useful degree and works full time should still not get half of a man's paycheck. why not tailor it to both parties salary is the same amount

That of course depends on who makes more.

My divorce was simple and DIY. The biggest aggravations for me were how long I had to wait in this state, even without kids, attempting to decipher the process on my own, multiple steps to file, etc. It felt like unnecessary government overreach, and made it clear to me that we turn a romantic notion into a government-regulated status. I’d be perfectly happy to say I’m married & never sign the paperwork. It should be that fricking hard to get a marriage license in the first place.
My BF’s divorce has cost tens of thousands in lawyer fees because he & his ex couldn’t work out any steps on their own. It’s insane. Her lawyer never responds, or responds at the 11th hour, so court dates get pushed back more months, etc.
I didn’t want anything from my ex when I divorced, so it was easy. I don’t want anything from a future romantic partner, either. I can take care of myself. I’ve seen what a nightmare it is when you have to go to a judge for every single thing, and I want no part of that. We can stay unmarried, keep things even, and divide our shite on our own if we break up.
I don’t know how to make the system less conflicted in traditional/OT relationships where the man makes 10x what his wife earns & she stays home to raise kids. That is a career decision they made as a couple, so I don’t think she should walk away with nothing. I also don’t think she should get everything. It’s not a situation I’ll ever be in, so I haven’t given it a lot of thought.

Why should community property be split if only one party has made all purchases or has everything in their name?

bridge the gap should be the maximum allowed, if anything at all, with a plan submitted, time limits of course, and revoked for not adhering to the plan

I have a co-worker who went through a horrible, public divorce. Both sides acted horribly and especially when it came to the custody agreements. For years they went back and forth to court over any perceived slight or infraction. Never once did they consider the children's needs, it was always their first.
A few months after the youngest son turned 18 he informed both of them that he had received a vasectomy and would never have a child. Because of the shitty way his parents were he said he would never put anyone through it. He also told both parents he never wanted to see either of them again. He moved out west and went to work. That was probably 4 years ago and they still have not reconciled. I doubt they ever will.
